Was recommended this hotel by someone who lived in Barrow... Oh how I wished we hadn't booked there...!!! Got charged £132 for a twin room with breakfast. When we saw the actual location, is was so disappointing, as it was nothing like the mountainous picture shown on the website. On entering the Hotel, we were hoping our disappointment of the location would be overshadowed by the luxury of the hotel itself BUT BOY WERE WE WRONG...!!! The carpets throughout the whole hotel were absolutely disgustingly dirty and stained. The twin room was incredibly shabby and dated, unlike the the websites description of it being decorated to an Exective Standard. There was mould in the shower grouting and mould on the wall above the toilet, which itself, has to be flushed continuously to get a decent flush of water. The tiny TV that was deemed adequate for the size of the room, had really poor reception, making viewing almost impossible, even after the aerial lead was swapped over. There was a loud humming noise coming up through the floorboards, which we were assured would stop atound 9pm as it was supposedly from the ice making machine below us, however this didn't stop till almost midnight. The poor and disgusting state of the hotel itself, gave us no confidence in trying the food. So we ate out that evening. When we checked out early the next morning, we were met with the new manager who, whilst agreeing with our comments on how disgusting and run down the hotel was, then tried to justify why the prices were still so high for such awful accommodation. The customer, should not be given a run down on all the recent costs he'd just had to pay out on to keep it open and when it was suggested he should lower the prices to reflect the true cost to the customer of staying somewhere so disgusting until its standards were improved, he said he was prepared to get bad reviews rather than the lower the price. He also said the new management, a property developer, had given him the next few months to turn it around before it being possibly turned into flats. In our opinion, no decent property developer would put their name to such an awful place and allow it to be kept open in the state it is and charge the extortionate rates they do. I am not an unreasonable person and willingly pay top prices for hotels rooms whilst away on holiday. We had just spent the most amazing 5 days and nights in the Lake District, at the most stunning locations, in different beautiful accommodations every night and each accommodation were all below the price we paid for here... what a truly disappointing end to our Cumbrian visit... so to anyone thinking of booking this hotel... DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY, U'LL BE SOOO DISAPPOINTED...!!! There are much nicer places to go that are cheaper, cleaner and more beautiful...!!!
The management team put themselves out to accommodate a large group at short notice, for our family reunion. 5 star service and a delicious meal, highly recommended. Sue, visiting from Australia
What a wonderful little hotel with an awesome view and location! Located on the coast near Piel and Roa Islands, with so much within easy walking distance. We had a lovely view over Morecambe Bay - could even see Blackpool Tower on the horizon lit up at night! The room was large, very clean and really comfortable. Also it had real character and charm - not a blandified grey blob of modernised cookie cutter decor! The staff were so friendly and professional, a really homely welcome. We had dinner and a drink in the pub downstairs and they were so accommodating. We are vegan, and the waitress and chef offered various options, including a lovely pie which we plumped for. The pub was lovely too, with an incredible brick fireplace like I’ve never seen before! Hope to be back, highly recommend 👌🙌
Staying near Rampside we were advised to try The Clarkes Hotel and were not disappointed, we had Sunday lunch very tasty and generous portions ,also had lunch today was fabulous. The staff are very friendly and the service is excellent, they are dog friendy and were great with our scottie dog, thank you for the great food and service and recommend anyone in the area try.
I was there for lunch with a friend, it's many, many years since I stayed there & so can't comment on the facilities of the Clarkes as a hotel now. However, lunch was lovely, the service was excellent & all staff very obliging & attentive. Will definitely be back.
