About us

The Duck lies in the very heart of the Lake District with breathtaking views of the surrounding fells. Perfectly situated within a few minutes drive of Tarn Hows, Coniston Old Man and the Langdale Pikes.

Its location within 60 acres of private land on a crossroads high above Lake Windermere provides a stunning setting for this quite extraordinary Lakeland Inn.

My favourite place to dine at in the Lake District - its hard to find truly quality food in the Lake District that isn't going to totally break the bank but this is it! The decorations are beautiful/extremely tasteful (great for a romantic date!) and the atmosphere is just right.

Just reviewing the pub, not the accommodation. Great place to eat and drink! Lovely atmosphere and excellent beer. Excellent place to stop as you walk and hike the lake district.

£30 for a main and £55 for a meal and a dessert... £25 for a dessert! The pricing is not transparent as the menu only states £65 for 3-course which in my opinion is overpriced. The wine menu doesn't include the price of a large glass of wine either which is again the highest I've ever paid. Plus 3 day cancellation charge of £45 is very steep. The menu is very limited with the only meat option being venison. The surprise bill ruined our evening as we'd been here in recent years and expected not to feel robbed.

As a Visitor, wanting to experience a true flavour of The Lake District, in terms of Location/Scenery, Local Ales/Locally sourced Produce to eat, and Local Hospitality, you hope to find a real Gem of a Pub like this. It's certainly, "off the beaten track", and is frequented by, "those in the know" (in our case, my Wife, who had been there prior to us meeting), Walkers/Cyclists/Car Trippers who stumble across it by chance, and most importantly, the Locals. Best to book, if you're wanting to eat Evening Meal there; it's served in the Dining Room Area, so spaces are limited, and they fill up VERY quickly. The interior of the Pub is extremely, "homely" and Traditional, with Retro Signs, Notices, and Adverts, adorning the Walls of the Main Bar Area. Toilets are spotless, and accessible to all Guests. The Car Park is in a, "Clearing" opposite the Pub, and there are Seating Areas in the Main Bar Area/Dining Room, immediately outside the Pub, and on Benches across the Road from the Pub (which provide stunning views of the Locale). Want to know about the best Local Ales? Ask one of the Locals, who are extremely welcoming, and more than happy to share their knowledge with you (we settled on Tag Hag, and Brathay Gold). The Pub also has its own Micro Brewery, and we look forward to working our way through these particular Ales, at some point! Cannot recommend The Drunken Duck, highly enough. Go and see for yourself!
