About us

Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality.

The Crown's historical distinction comes from the fact it stands on the site of the Hickford Rooms, once the main concert halls of London. Mozart gave a recital here in 1765, aged just nine. Our Brewer Street address commemorates the 18th century breweries that sat on our doorstep, both now demolished sadly. We are also known as a popular haunt of American airmen in the Second World War.

The Crown is one of many rare gems in the Nicholson's collection of great British pubs, reputed for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.

Nice spot good atmosphere. Calm and quite upstairs perfect for families. Unfortunately they did not have any beef burgers available. I had shepherds pie which comes with deep fried broccoli and cold roasted carrots/ gravy Advice from chef to chef, toast that veggies at least with oil on the frying pan if you cook them 2 hours before for your mise en place and tell chef mike to cook that pie 4 minutes instead of 5 that was solid hot all the way to the end. ( mw effect ) My wife had fish and chips totally on the spot thank you. I would recommend it as a chef but not gonna have that pie again for sure.

Reserved a space for the Blur fan club, we were treated fantastically. Highly recommended the food too. They were low on stock but still got to enjoy a pie. It was busy with a great atmosphere too.

My in-laws were visiting from the US and wanted to try some traditional pub food. We stopped at a couple of Green King pubs, but the traditional offerings were a bit lacking. So we sorta just strolled around and luckily found The Crown. The menu had more traditional offerings, so we decided to give it a shot. The ground floor was packed, so we headed upstairs. There we found a small, quiet room with a few people quietly having dinner. There were a few tables open, and we sat down under a photo of a painting of Mozart. Very cool. And on the walls were pasted pieces of sheet music. Upon investigating the connection, it turns out The Crown was built on the site of The Hickford Rooms, an 18th century concert hall where Mozart performed when he was only 9! So we were having dinner in a very special place. Dante, our server, was fantastic. And the food was delicious. Unfortunately, they were out of their signature pie, but I and my father-in-law decided to try the fish pie. My mother-in-law went with the sweet potato & goat’s cheese pie. Each pie also came with a side of oven roasted carrots, cabbage & peas. The meals were delicious and filling. Overall a wonderful experience.
