About us

Our cosy village pub is over 400 years old and has the warmth and character so many pubs have lost over the years retaining the wonderful log burner fire (great on a chilly night), flagstone floors, traditional stone walls and low beamed ceilings. Perfectly accompanying by our fantastic selection of cask ales, wines and ciders served to perfection. We are known for our traditional Sunday roast and other home cooked foods we are able to offer.

Well, I think a previous reviewer was somewhere else! Just had an excellent Christmas Dinner with friends - 9 of us. Three courses, each one well presented and served by attentive efficient staff. Excellent selection - between us we had turkey, beef and fish mains - all cooked expertly and with generous portions. Super selection of veg and all the trimmings. If I had to be critical I'd just say sadly no cauliflower cheese today - it is usually one of the Sunday lunch staples, no extra charge for it and absolutely my cheesy favourite! This pub has certainly upped its catering game in the past months. Well done and thank you.

This is cooking at its laziest and its worst. The two stars are for hospitality. It’s a throwback to 80’s cuisine, but with the twenty-twenties price tag. My gravy was school dinners and the veggies were prison worthy. I’m sorry, but a chef has a choice.. they can organise de a dogs dinner or they can choose to invest in making food with love.

It was very busy during our visit, it being a relatively small, well maintained old-world pub with a relaxed, restaurant vibe. We were served reasonably quickly and the staff and patrons were very friendly, particularly to our dog. The pub is dog friendly. We had an excellent Sunday lunch and a couple of drinks. There is not a wide selection of drinks, but they had wine and Guinness, which suited us. We will be coming back here.

A lovely old village pub. Friendly staff serving good beer and simple food nicely cooked. Glad to have found it. Will find an excuse to go again.

Unfortunately we arrived just as the kitchen was about to shut. However the barman was very helpful and the chef was happy to provide our meals of scampi and chips and cod and chips. They were both excellent, the best fish and chips we have eaten in a long time. The beer was good too! How lucky to have such a welcoming friendly pub in Fivehead. Thanks
