About us

Local branch Pub of the Year 2008, and runner-up nationally in CAMRA's Pub of the Year for 2009, so no wonder the Crown is a busy pub, especially in the evenings. A choice of around 16 ever-changing beers are usually to be had, making it probably the town's foremost cask ale outlet; beers from Pictish and Copper Dragon are normally available. Four rooms radiate from the busy bar, two compact snugs, a large lounge with feature overmantle, and lastly a plainer pool room. The atmosphere is one of friendly professionalism aided by knowledgeable staff. Real cider is often sourced by Merrylegs. Above average food is served Mon-Wed 12-3 (4 Thu/Fri). Live music is a feature of Weds and Suns, with the large yard and atractive outdoor seating area to the rear often (Fri) show-casing larger acts such as local rock bands, folk, acoustic and more. It serves too as a beer garden and barbecue area.

Great local, dog friendly pub with super friendly staff. The only downside is that they don't serve food.

What an absolute gem of a pub!! Wonderful to find a pub that’s actually used by people who appreciate a drink, spend a good amount of money and value the pub for what it is. Proper pub for proper people. Fantastic staff, very friendly punters and some amazing dogs. Just off the fantastic Mersey Vale Country Park, not far off the trans Pennine trail and not a bad round walk from Stockport. 5* from me 🍺🍺❤️ I WILL be back …

Always liked this "country pub" in the city. First visit for about 5 years. Came with Icarus for an excellent pint of Unicorn at £4 a pint. One of four Robinsons real ales on handpump. (Dizzy Blond, Trooper & Cumbrian Way.) Lovely cottage like interior with low ceilings and beams. Wooden floors. Patio seating to front and side. Well worth a visit. Inside split into two main rooms. Ic likes it.
