Went for the Hot Fuzz experience, got a Cold Fuzz. So sorry to upset all dog owners but please leave your dogs at home. You do realise there are people allergic to these animals but hey what do you care? Bring ya 6/7 dogs with you and cause people to move tables. Food apparently all round was nice but it took 3 attempts to bring me the correct order. £16.50 for a burger and a few chips made my bank contact me to see if I needed an interest free credit card!
We went in for a full English as the normal place we go has gotten really cold. This was slightly warmer but what a super clean pub. The floors were immaculate! Definitely a well looked after place. The food was great just what you would expect for a pub fry up. 1 of everything and it all tasted lovely. Service was quick and efficient.
Excellent food as ever. Always a varied menu every time so no chance of getting bored. Presentation was excellent and the first time is had a venison scotch egg, excellent. Staff ate great, drinks poured and presented perfectly. It also must be noted as it's rare these days, the crockery was spotless as was the cutlery, it's too likely of late in pubs and restaurants to find water marked cutlery, not here. A vital cog in the machine often unnoticed, bravo. Will be back regularly.
Thought this would make a nice lunch stop. It didn't which is a shame given it's prime location. The food is very average (or below) for a premium price and the service poor. They must rely on serving tourists who won't be coming back anyway because I wouldn't visit a second time.
We stayed at the crown as a base to explore Somerset. When we arrived there wasn't very much of a welcome, no interest in our stay, no local information passed, just a thrusted card given to us because Hot Fuzz was filmed there. This seems their main concern. Our room was nice although could have been better lit. There was no welcome booklet about fire instructions, local amenities and sights etc. The room was replenished with water each day though and the beds made etc. Wednesday and Saturday mornings are welcomed in by the market traders setting up early but that can't be helped and ear plugs were provided. The staff serving breakfast have a lackadaisical attitude and were often heard telling customers to make their own toast when ordering egg on toast for example. There wasn't a great choice of fruit and the cereal was standard. The cooked breakfasts were generally well executed but the service seemed false particularly when one staff member was heard saying words to the effect of when they eat slow it means we're here longer and I just want to go to bed. One guest asked for the breakfast drink of a cappuccino and the reply was they couldn't have one because the coffee machine hadn't been cleaned. One serving member rolled her eyes when a guest said they had missed something off her order. Swearing was heard from the kitchen on one occasion. The bar staff aren't particularly friendly and the bistro menu isn't bistro, just pub food really, small servings at high prices for what the dishes were. The best thing about this place is the location which is what we think they rely on as nobody working there seems to be interested in hospitality. There was no friendly farewell either or thanks for your stay.
