Absolutely loved this old coaching Inn with open fires , beams and original doors. Dog friendly without additional charge, brilliant central location 30 secs from hotel reception and you've all the brilliant bars and resturants close by. Its a real winner and will certainly look forward to going again. 30 miles drive from Nth London or accessible via Metropolian line to Amersham BTW If driving by car you must take slight detour around 5 miles away to the oldest pub in England called the Royal Standard England Beconsfield, Its a living history musuem and out of this world cuisine There's two of Same name but if you want open fires and history it's the one near Fortis Green HP9 I recall not HP10.
The rooms are quiet and beautifully furnished with such comfortable beds and luxurious modern bathroom fittings. But the best part is that you can have this in an ancient pub with history and character— the yard is beautiful and the bar/restaurant has a special atmosphere that is hard to come by. Situated opposite the old market and in the heart of this charming place within walking distance to quality shops, restaurants, country walks, cafes, and historical places—highly recommend booking a little escape here.
Lovely building in the middle of wonderful Amersham. My room was opposite reception although initially I was guided upstairs, along corridors and then downstairs again (!). Once I knew the quicker route via the French windows I could easily nip in and out.I was not treated very nicely at breakfast: being a single woman I was told I couldn't sit at a table for 4, as this was for a group of 3, although it was the only one free. Instead I was taken to a different room altogether where there was nobody at all. I protested and suggested the group of 3 could sit there as they had their own company. This is what happened but I did feel discriminated against as a single woman.
Great location, friendly staff, great breakfasts. However, dire wifi, only one plug socket in the room nowhere near the bed (despite it clearly being recently refurbished) and a mattress that may well be a Georgian original. Points back for the excellent air conditioning which was appreciated on a very warm weekend.
What a fabulous place to stay! Sure, we've heard some other guests saying how they didn't like the creaky floors or the old feeling, but that's exactly what we enjoyed! Our room was quaint with a lot of charm. Not too big, but that didn't matter. The breakfast was very enjoyable with a menu you can order from. The service polite and made our stay very enjoyable.
