We ordered at 1:30pm, the food arrived 3:30pm we waited a long time just for the food to be really dissapointing, our roasts and burgers were cold. But the staff were helpful and complaint and we got our meals remade which were slightly warmer, the situation was dealt by the manager very well, and we got our whole meal for free. Wouldn't recommend coming.
The range of dishes was incredible and high quality. I think that a menu of smaller complete dishes for elderly people with small appetites would benefit greatly as the children's menu was still quite generous but was focused on 'children's food'. The staff were so lovely and accommodating, they made a special occasion that much more precious without even realising! The venue is true to its heritage and the open fires made it that much more special.
Great restaurant, cozy atmosphere with wooden fireplace, tasty food, quite location.
Thanks for your reply, it's shows you care, not sure why my friend tip for service when it was not outstanding or even that good , I would of made you aware at time of paying if I was pay the bill. My friend is one who don't like to complain and make a fuss. I did not wish to say anything at the time as our friend's had book the table and I did not wish to cause any embarrassment to them, As you know I contacted you as soon as I got home to make you aware how disappointing I was. I look at other review and there seems to be many happy experiences. Good luck and thanks for your reply. Let's hope you get better reviews. I have contacted the manager and made him aware of my disappointment . The four of us feedback about our meals. Started not great, squid . It was to cold there . Long wait for our food to come . Pizzas one was cold and other warms Gamon steak not that good could not eat it all. Pudding ok. Would not go there again. Even when the manager has offer a discount next time we visit the pub. Harvey's bitter good. Staff better training as could be far better not worth tipping . No Wow factor at The Crow and Gate.
After driving past here driving to Ashdown Forest during the pandemic, we finally ate here. I didnt fancy the veg roast so had a delicious mushroom on toast with onion rings. Husband had a roast, kids had a lovely pizza and garlic bread, and sausage and mash. Really warm helpful quick service. Lovely location.
