Welcome to The Cricketers; a beautiful historic pub dating back to the 18th Century. The pub is steeped in history and faces onto the village cricket green which houses the oldest, continuously played, cricket pitch and club in England. So, you can enjoy a meal and a drink watching cricket or for those who are not cricket fans, you can still come and enjoy the ambience.

We arrived at the pub for Sunday lunch, placed an order of roast lamb for me and jerk chicken salad with chips for my wife. I ordered a sparkling water and my wife ordered a small beer. We waited for 30 minutes and decided to sit outside until the food came. I told the waitress that I would leave my drink until I came back. We sat outside and then came back after 20 minutes, but the food still wasn’t ready. After about another 20 minutes, I asked a waiter how much longer and he said it is “in the pass.” The food eventually came about 15 minutes later and my lamb tasted processed and possibly frozen. My wife’s meal was also very average. I was offered horseradish which never came and when I asked for the bill, I had been charged for two roast lamb meals! The waiter, Simon, was apologetic and offered free wine if we returned. I can honestly say that I would never go back. My wife also said the ladies toilet was filthy! The restaurant was not busy and I cannot understand why the service and food was so bad. Incidentally, a couple of ladies on the adjacent table waited a similar amount of time and one of the meals was wrong when it arrived. She was offered an alternative and that never came! She watched her friend eat some tasteless ravioli and left the pub hungry. A total disaster all round!
We visited on Saturday for our friends birthday and were impressed with the food, service and atmosphere. The food was fantastic and the staff were attentive and friendly. One of the bar staff mentioned that the chef was having a really difficult day but as a customer that wasn't obvious at all. We did have a couple of items from the tapas order missing but that was rectified immediately! The onion rings were possibly some of the best I've ever had! Very much looking forward to coming back again. Thank you. The pub being dog friendly is also a massive bonus!
Came here for dinner after visiting the Christmas Lights at West Green House. First time visiting and we were very impressed with the service and quality of food. The menu had great variety and the homemade steak and kidney pie was very tasty! I highly recommend the homemade pie (changes every few days) and the king prawn with chorizo too.
Drove past and couldn't resist stopping, overlooking a large green, was offered food and upon looking at menu I took the healthy option (never imagined Id like Avocado) alongside some Jalapeno Delights with additional hot sauce mrmm.. David from SA was tip top on his service, professionalism, attentiveness, and all round personally! Great pub
A great place to have food and drink. The food was cooked excellent and served at the right temperature with great service. The staffs were polite and knowledgeable. I believe it’s a dog friendly pub with super ambience and free parking right in front. The barman served the Guinness the way it should be and we thought it tasted as if we were having a pint of Guinness in Dublin! The pub interior could do with refurbishment and a coat of paint and so could the male toilets. But these things perhaps don’t matter as quality of food, drinks and service are the best!
