Really recommend the roast for quality, quantity and price. The only downside is the potatoes which are a bit chewy, I guess from being cooked and kept warm or reheated but overall the food is really good. On this occasion, after having our roast we waited 20mins for a server to offer desserts, no one came so we asked someone if we could order them. They brought us menus and never returned, another 20mins passed and we gave up. This time going to the bar to ask for the bill as there was no one about to request this either. A table in the same room went to get their bill and another had to get up and ask someone to take their order. There didn't seem to be an issue with staffing as plenty were about when we first ordered and several stuck their head out of the kitchen but never actually came out to speak to the customers. We were a group of 4 and would have ordered more drinks and puddings if someone served us (another £40-50) - instead we went to a supermarket and picked one up for home! Would return but service needs improving.
We love this pub, but such a shame that although I asked twice if we could have some time after the starter before the main, they came out one after another. They give you a two hour sitting but we had eaten the 2 courses within 45 minutes and felt so full. A Sunday lunch should be a relaxing meal, with time to enjoy the food.
Went for lunch (hadn't booked but luckily they fitted us in). Absolutely delicious lunch! Steak and ale pie.. fantastic! Reasonable prices and brilliant service. We'll be back
One of the best pub suppers we have had for ages. We had really well cooked tenderloin of pork and a seafood gratin. Good puddings too, and wine around £25 a bottle. Dinner for two for £70 really good value. Lovely atmosphere in old pub with walls covered with cricketing prints. Rustic charm. 3 smallish rooms for dining and pub bar in the middle one. Quite full even on a rainy Thursday. Best to book.
I eat out a lot because of business travel. Honestly this was the best pub food I have had in years. Dog friendly. Weekends are restricted to one dog per booking.
