So it's now called the Cartologist... As a long time attendee it was nice to see that some money had been invested into the premises and that the refurbishment had attracted people back into the pub. The pub had a strong customer base creating a nice feel. Most customers were eating but I can't comment on the food as my partner and I only had drinks. The staff were attentive and polite and the tables cleared quickly of empty dishes and glasses. The place had a little bit of the old buzz about it again. Time will tell if this is sustainable but if the food is a good standard (it used to be but then went downhill as did the pub) then it could be a go to destination pub. I wish the landlord the best of luck and hopes he/she can hold onto good chefs

Great cosy and welcoming pub! Park just opposite for free in the evening, or near now closed DLI for free. Very stylish decoration, giving new life to the vintage furniture, yet not looking shabby. The staff is very helpful. Can make you your favourite drinks, alcoholic or just very good quality tea. Haven't tried food yet, but I shall soon. Love this place!

We booked a table thinking it'd be so busy, unfortunately we were the only couple in the restaurant area. The staff were friendly & attentive, the pizzas were tasty albeit a tad expensive. The menu only offered pizza, had we realised that before our visit we probably would have chosen elsewhere. The chairs are are little uncomfortable as they've no pads/ padding. Will we visit again? Mmm, maybe? If a more varied menu is on offer & maybe some quiet music in the background to give a better ambience.

Great pub in Durham with lots quirky old furniture and decor. We went there for Sunday Lunch and weren't disappointed. The roast beef literally fell apart on your plate. It was served with lots of tasty vegetables, Yorkshire Pudding and lovely gravy. The sticky toffee for dessert was without doubt the best I've ever had. Highly recommended and good value.

Food was ok, we were there for a Christmas meal and our party was split across two very cramped tables while another group had a lovely long table, which was a little annoying. Soup was vile and flavours completely unidentifiable- everybody at our table ended up leaving it uneaten (which for some reason didn't even warrant a query from the waiter)- while the rest of the food was ok, but a little pretentious with relatively little substance. Overall though, the service was decent and the waiter friendly, although it was hard to serve our food with us so cramped up. Parking was very very crowded and difficult to get to- I think next time we'd just park on the street and pay rather than try and squeeze into the tiny carpark. Generally though, I think if you avoid special occasions/busy periods it might be a pleasant place to visit once in a while.
