About us

Penhale Round Cookhouse + Pub

Whether you’re grabbing breakfast before a long day surfing on Fistral Beach, or you’re sitting down for a big family dinner after a trip on the steam train at Lappa Valley, at the Penhale Round you can enjoy some of the best food in Newquay at great-value prices. Tuck into tasty breakfasts, lunches and desserts right off the A30, and after you’re done look forward to exploring some of the most scenic spots in Cornwall. It’s always a good time for another round at the Penhale Round!

Our team

We’re very fortunate to have such a committed team here at the Penhale Round, some of our friendly faces have been with us for over 10 years! A lot of our team were born and raised in the nearby villages of Fraddon and Indian Queens, and we know Newquay like the back of our hand. Newquay’s a popular holiday spot for obvious reasons (so many top-class beaches so close together!) and we love seeing the regulars who pop in every year, as well as meeting lots of new faces.

We like to do our bit and get involved in anything we can support locally, so we often donate prizes to local schools for fundraisers. We also host lots of raffles to support Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children – make sure to take part!

Our location

Our restaurant is right on the A30, we’re really easy to get to. We have a great play area for kids under 12 and large garden seating with 8-seater round benches. We’re only a 20-minute drive from Fistral Beach, Great Western Beach, Towan Beach and plenty of other golden sandy beaches. If you’ve already been to the beach, we’re also only a 20-minute drive from Goss Moor National Nature Reserve and only 10-minutes’ drive from Lappa Valley.

Why we love Newquay

The Penhale Round is named after an archaeological dig from the early 90s, which uncovered a stone-built hut dating back to the Iron Age. Now, we’re not saying our plucky little restaurant has been around quite as long as our namesake, but we’ve been in business since 1996 and we’ve learnt a lot since then, especially about the best things to do around Newquay.

Newquay is probably most famous for its amazing beaches, but that’s not all there is to do. We’re really close to Blue Reef Aquarium where you can learn about all the wonderful sea life surrounding us, go have an arr-some time at the Pirate’s Quest Adventure Golf and make a day of it with a long trip through Newquay Zoo.

And that’s not all, we’re in a great spot right bang in the middle of some of the best things to see in Cornwall. Enjoy a delicious dinner with us and then go to the very edge of the UK at Land’s End, or sit back and enjoy a good soak at Oasis Fun Pools.

Really not impressed at all. Waited over 30min to be served cold rubber chicken. Overcooked steak. Cold chips and beans. My partner didn't receive the correct food and again was cold and rubbery. I would understand if they were busy but it wasn't. Not the first time we've had this experience and as always with a server who doesn't care. Sadly last time. Won't be returning.

Visited today (a group of 9), Customer Service was super-superb amazing! pretty good offer on their meals. Ordered Cheeseburger and Latte, food serving in extremely large portions ☺️ key points at my gaze: atmosphere was a bit bland and food can improve much more..

We meet and eat regularly at the Penhale Round. We are always greeted by friendly smiling staff which is normally Sue. She is the glue that holds the place together. Nothing is ever a problem and no matter how busy it is (normally very) she always has everything under control. Varied menus, normally a deal not to be missed is. Hats off to you Sue keep up the great work 🙌🏻

Excellent service. Fantastic food. I dined with my two children (3+8). Robbie was absolutely brilliant - he gave a lot of time to help me look through the allergy menu and make sure the kids were happy with the choices, and checked in a number of times during our meal. Kids food was great. And some great vegan options! (Both have a dairy allergy). A yummy vegan dip with starter, and vegan ice cream that was genuinely better than most dairy options. Hurrah! Fantastic service. Great food. Felt welcomed and looked after (special name drop for Robbie there - thank you!) Will definitely be back!

Lovely staff, lovely atmosphere and food was good value for the money. Steak cooked as requested (medium rare) and generously sized deserts.
