On a damp Christmas eve, we had lunch of Pheasant curry, Prawn Baguettes and fresh tomato soup. Baguettes not actually on menu. Very friendly staff and customers. Everyone spoke to us. Warm and welcoming.
We were visiting Cornwall to deliver our son to a friend's wedding, with no other way for him to get there during a rail strike. It was a very long, wearisome journey - to and fro from Wiltshire. A comfortable watering hole was desperately needed! Thank heavens for google maps, which took us to the Rising Sun. It's clearly a pub that caters to locals, but we were made welcome by everybody there. It's one of those places that is quirky, traditional, and full of character, and we absolutely loved it. The location is hidden away down narrow lanes, but it really is worth searching out. The welcome is warm, and the food and drink are very good. I would return without hesitation....
I don't think the photos online do this little pub justice. The views from the garden across the Tamar valley are fabulous and inside is the quintessential olde world pub. We sat outside as it was a lovely summer's day but I imagine it's a cosy place to sit by the fire in the winter. Didn't eat so can't comment on food but good selection of beers, had a nice pint of Legend and another of Sea Fury. If you happen to arrive by train beware the ENORMOUS, almost-vertical Stony Lane to get back to the station. You'll certainly feel it in your calves!
Popped in here after ringing the bells at St Andrews church. A very welcoming pub. Great landlady and locals. Perfect selection of real ales especially Sea Fury and Legend. First time I’ve seen them on tap at the same time in any pub. Made a great end to a good night
Visiting on the ale trail, went back with the family. Great pub! With the open fire for winter and plenty of stable outdoor seating and cover for the summer (with a view) - a place I'd highly recommend to visit. For lunch, dinner or an ale session! Welcoming attentive staff to top it all off.
