The Corn Mill has been grinding flour for at least seven hundred years, and owes its foundation to the Cistercian monks of Valle Crucis. It is first mentioned in a 13th Century document dealing with a fishing dispute between the freemen of Llangollen and
As the name so clearly suggests, our pub was obviously a mill long before we took over and turned it into what it is today. As you walk through the door you will be greeted by a great jumble of old beams everywhere, and the water wheel turning slowly behind the bar. The decks outside are built directly over the mill race and the rapids, and on the opposite bank of the river, steam trains arrive and leave from the restored station.
Mountains and hills rise all around Llangollen which is a seriously active place for a small community - in July there is the International Eisteddfod, a massive music festival where choirs from some fifty different countries compete; there is an accompanying Fringe festival based in the theatre behind the Corn Mill; hot air balloon festivals and jazz festivals, food weeks and international canoeing competitions... and a great pub on the river.
Visited here back at the beginning of the month. The atmosphere was great and enjoyed the fact the place was dog friendly and the lady was very nice to our dog. The service was great and the food tasted nice, the lamb shank was cooked to perfection however was disappointed as we came early evening and there was practically nothing available on the menu. This was a shame :(
One of the best places we've ever eaten at. Food was unbelievable. Stunning location and friendly staff. I had the Pan fried sea bass, crayfish risotto, pea velouté and crispy ham Highly recommended.
Beautiful food after a lovely walk . I would reccomend the Sunday roast with Welsh beef, just a bit pink and melt in your mouth. It was gorgeous! The kids enjoyed their meal also chicken gousions with chips and peas. The pudding were divine . The views were really nice too.
We were slightly late due to roads & maps. Very accommodating on arrival staff were all warm & friendly. We had starters & mains and we came away very satisfied. The starters were slightly on the small side but the mains made up the difference so all was well. Longish Wait between starters & mains but it is Christmas so we expected that. Very enjoyable very nice highly recommended place to go.
Superb location overlooking the river. Great menu and welcoming friendly staff. We visited for lunch on the recommendation of a local friend. Seanass Greek feta, a steak burger and garlic bread later we were very satisfied. Nicely cooked and presented food. Book to avoid disappointment especially if you would like to bring your four legged friend. Recommended.
