For most of its lengthy history, this pub was The Commercial Inn. The name can be seen in capital letters on the gable end of the building facing Wharf Street. The inn is not one of the local ‘taverns and public houses’ recorded in 1842 or on the list of local innkeepers of 1845. However, its site is marked on the 1850 OS Map as an ‘inn’ – and the building is recorded as The Commercial Inn, Wharf Street, in the 1861 local trade directory.
Food and drink okay, nothing special just general spoons quality. Place was filthy and full of uncleaned tables.
The normal Wetherspoons experience. Very reliable, cheap, fast food and beer. Love it.
Standard fare for a Wetherspoons...liked the large windows at the front so you can watch the world go by!...quite busy being father's day but still served quickly with the friendly staff... relaxed xmas feel to the place.
Not the best spoons I've visited, but it's OK. Set on the main road through sowerby bridge with outdoor seating to front and rear. Not the best selection of drinks compared to some of thier bigger pubs, but worth a look if you're after a quick pint or a cheap meal.
Nice clean rooms and friendly staff! Though the shower was a little slowly as there was a lifting station for the grey water. I don’t really know why they need such a thing in the 3rd floor and the shower was full with water after a minute. Another negative aspect were the tables in the breakfast room / pub. These were sticky and didn’t feel clean. Nevertheless, the breakfast was great and one could choose from a variety of dishes. The dinner in the pub was also delicious. Overall it was a good experience with some negativ aspects.
