About us

Situated in Dedham Vale, home of Constable Country, the village of Polstead, famous for the "Red Barn Murder", boasts beautiful country walks and cycling routes, chocolate box thatched cottages and houses.

We cater for rambling and walking groups, cyclists, families and dog walkers alike.

We offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, whether it be a drink at the bar or a delicious home cooked meal in front of the roaring log fire in the winter months or an alfresco lunch or dinner in our lovely garden overlooking the village green.

Our menus and daily specials boards offer fresh home cooked food, using local suppliers and ingredients where possible, to reflect the seasons.

Behind the bar we have a great range of cask ales, international beers and wines from around the globe and a range of soft drinks and children's drinks. In our tea room or bar we offer a range of teas, coffees, cakes of the day, cream teas and, of course, full afternoon teas.

So whether you enjoy a gathering with friends and family for a drink, lunch or dinner or an intimate dinner in our restaurant, The Cock Inn Polstead is a place to come and relax and enjoy our great food and drink.

Staying in a campsite locally, we visited this lovely pub twice during our stay and if we were here longer, then l am sure we would have been back more.. Cosy atmosphere with a log fire, great food and welcoming hosts, this is a gem that if you are staying in this part of the world, you won’t want to miss!

An absolute Gem finding! From start to finish, Amazing! As soon as we entered we were warmly greeted, drinks were very good, Roast dinners were very tasty, as far as one of the best home cooked Roast dinners we have had to date! Deserts!!! Were also amazing, look at the size of it!!!! We will definitely be returning, thank you so much, kind regards Clay and Clare

convenient place to stop for a pint while hiking, sadly otherwise avoidable. food: fish and chips were good! atmosphere: cute little place in a quaint village. sadly malodorous water was bubbling up next to our table. some other guests said they had experienced this before service: folks working were kind, but quite stressed out and made numerous errors with us and several other tables whilst we were there, then lashing out at clients. their staff had so many internal miscommunications on our order that we had to cancel our sticky toffee pudding (post 30 minute wait).this might have been avoided had the cook not been outside complaining about bad clients (-1 star)for that 30 minutes. at all points the staff seemed defensive about the service claiming short staffing issues and being busy in spite of 1 in 4 tables being empty. other reviews reflect similar customer experiences over time Thanks for the fish and chips. hope things work out!

Beautiful setting, food friends, peaceful pub. Pub has large car park. Photos of Polstead. We had steak with new.potatoes, salad, walnuts, blues cheese stilton and fish cakes and battered prawns for starters. Very friendly start. Great selection of wine, beer, gin, spirits, cider.
