The food was very good overall. The soup and macaroni was excellent. I had the chocolate brownie which was very poor. It had been microwaved and was rock hard and almost inedible. My biggest complaint is the 20% NHS discount which they refused to accept because we were eating of the weekday menu. I think it's sad to see a restaurant offer no discount to the people who worked through COVID. Then to add insult they add 10% service charge to the bill every time without consultation. This sours the occasion every time as you realize they have no appreciation for NHS staff. They advertised as a local restaurant, employing local people. I wish they would remember they have local customers and show a bit more respect to them.
Just back. They were doing a 30% off in January offer but didn't tell us and didn't apply it to the bill. The bill was incorrect anyway, and they had added a service charge on of £7 ! I asked for the bill to be correctly adjusted, they altered it to its correct price (still no 30% off though) but kept the same £7 service charge that they had applied to the first larger and incorrect bill ! 10% service charge of our correct total would only have been £5 but by this point I had lost the will to live. My food was dry and burnt. Restaurant was freezing cold. Felt like they were trying to squeeze as much cash out of you as possible.
Early Saturday lunchtime, no atmosphere, food was good, and service was adequate. The football was on every TV which killed the atmosphere. I get it that it's a sports bar, but please consider your clientele! Premises clean and tidy. I would go back.
My recent visit to Church on the Hill was made memorable by the Geordie chap behind the bar. The staff were all friendly, but Scott in particular welcomed us with a warm smile and friendly tone. He was extremely attentive to myself and my wife offering advice on the menu and making sure we were topped up with drinks whenever we were approaching an empty glass. His ability to anticipate our requests without being overbearing added greatly to our experience. Despite the busy atmosphere, Scott was prompt and made us feel valued. Will be back
Had the steak for 2 deal. 2 steaks, 2 sides, 2 sauces plus you also get chips, onion rings and corn on the cob with the steaks. And a bottle of white, red or rose wine. It was all delicious and amazing value for money!
