Great old boozer, really great staff, awesome Guinness
A lovely old pub in what was once a coaching house. Great atmosphere and.new owners will be reintroducing food in the New Year. The church next door is well worth a visit too!
Fantastic old inn (circa 1600, as given on a plaque on the wall outside), with great character. They still offer rooms for bed and board, check in is at the bar. They have a board games night last Wednesday of each month, and a folk music night upstairs once a week. Walking in takes you back in time. There are several rooms you can sit in, each with a different 'feel'. The main room is the largest, but there are a couple of side rooms, one at the front on the left, and one at the back on the left, with a cosy feel to them and some interesting old photos. They have three beers on the pumps. Wadworth 6X is my go to, and one of my favourite beers. On my first visit it was glorious, nutty aroma, and flavours of dark toast, walnuts and caramel, and not too heavy. On this visit it had just slightly turned, not far enough to warrant returning it, but the sourness was just masking the complexity of the beer.
Absolute fantastic pub. Staff were brilliant, good beers and great food. Couldn’t have asked for any more. 100% recommend for any functions, or just a night out.
Good beer selection, and it's an attractive traditional British pub in a lovely setting. Just needs a lick of paint to stop it from becoming too grungy. Pubs are dying because of high alcohol prices. But also if the service from all the staff is "indifferent", then people won't make it their 1st choice for a night out. A bit of schmoozing by the landlord and a few kind words from the bar staff would help. Saying goodbye when customers leave would also be good.
