About us

Local branch Pub of the Year 2008, and runner-up nationally in CAMRA's Pub of the Year for 2009, so no wonder the Crown is a busy pub, especially in the evenings. A choice of around 16 ever-changing beers are usually to be had (including a mild, stout, and/or porter), making it probably the town's foremost cask ale outlet. Beers from Pictish and Copper Dragon are normally available too, and on the last Friday and Saturday of each month, the pub presents a ‘brewery tap’ of around eight beers from a changing, premium brewery. Four rooms radiate from the busy bar, two compact snugs, a large lounge with feature overmantle, and lastly a plainer pool room. The atmosphere is one of friendly professionalism aided by knowledgeable staff. Up to four cask ciders are avialable, often sourced by Merrylegs. Caribbean food and pizzas are served Mon-Fri 12-2, plus Friday evening only 6-9. Live music is a feature of Weds and Suns, with the large yard and atractive outdoor seating area to the rear often (Fri) show-casing larger acts such as local rock bands, folk, acoustic and more. It serves too as a beer garden and barbecue area.

Originally one of the best pubs in Stockport. After repeated closures and reopenings, has lost its way. First drink was off... Staff replaced no quibbles.

Best pub in Stockport. Shout out to the landlady Jill! Came up from London for work & she made us feel like locals. If you want go anywhere, come here

Awful that the pub has declined so much. Of 12 pumps only one beer was available. What used to be a cosy pub has been covered in white paint that's stripped it of any character. Terrible atmosphere, terrible beer.

This used to be such a lovely pub a few years ago - massive selection of real ales, open fire in each room, really cosy welcoming vibe. Popped in for the first time after the refurb and what's been done to it is little short of vandalism. Awful bright white lighting, sloppy garish white paint sloshed on all the walls and tacky TV screens, loud pop music blaring and no ales on offer when I visited despite 12 pumps on the bar. At least they've kept the old leather benches intact I suppose, but that's about it. Just awful. Historic pubs like the Crown need to be preserved better than this. What's happened to a historic local landmark is unforgivable.

Tricky review for me to write based on a one off visit since the pub has been taken over & refurbished. The 'positives' cask beer range was from a bear town takeover & staff were great at offering opportunity to try each before selecting. The chosen beer was first rate & well kept. The pub was noticeably empty, which is a shame. I had been told about televisions in every room but these were all switched off at time of visit early Saturday evening.
