Excellent little real ale oasis, in a quiet friendly atmosphere
Tuesday 15th August 2023 This great real ale pub is a must to visit in Stockport This pub is not a pub for the people who are on the table Great real ales great locals and a place I love to drink in without feeling intimidated
Perhaps the most unfriendly experience that I’ve ever had in a Stockport pub that I’ve visited for the first time — but that doesn’t involve all of the patrons by any means. Just a bit of a pointless place to have as a pub if you don’t want the public in there. Anyway, the smoking area had a couple of interesting things in it — that was worth my pint in there… which was difficult enough to order. “Do you do Guinness”? — “No, we don’t do anything like that here” — “Well, do you do stout?” — “Yes, we do this” — “Well, can I have a taster of that, please?” — “We don’t do tasters here”. What a disgrace
I pop into the Midland every couple of weeks or so. It's a proper old school pub which is a welcome relief. The current vogue for foodie pubs is fine but sometimes you just want a few pints,a packet of crisps and nothing else. The pub has it's quota of regulars and is a nice place to visit if you fancy a pint by yourself with a bit of bustle in the background.
