Excellent, warm atmosphere on entering. Not too busy, but not empty by any means. Great, attentive service throughout, including the use of the Blue Light Discount (20%) on the food, but check T&C's if you can use this. We were having the Burns Niggt 'Special' Menu. Starters: I had the Crispy Pheasant which was particularly nice, especially the clear chilli gel. Nice but of heat to add to the sharpness of the apple and pickled red onion. The other half had the Crab and Avocado salad, which she said was initially nice, but was disappointed by the several pueces of Crab shell mixed into main part of this. 2nd course: Choice of Traditional or Vegan Haggis, 'Neeps & Tatties'. We both had the traditional style, with a whisky cream, which was delicious. (Beware if not used to the peppery taste of a prepared Haggis). Mains: I had the Balmoral Chicken (wrapped in bacon and stuffed with Haggis and Sausage meat), with Buttery Mash and 'Neeps', with a whisky cream. Again, it was delicious, moist, and cooked just right. The other half had Venison in rich 'jus' (gravy for us Northerners) and creamy mash, which initially looked nice, but she stated the Venison was a very cheap cut, absolutely 'riddled' with sinew, like it was trying to cut/chew through elastic bands. I tried it myself and was immediately put off. She managed to eat what she could, but left the majority of the 'venison', which tasted more like a cheap cut of beef (we have both had Venison on many occasions, and this was nothing like anything previously consumed). Disappointing main, which left us thinking were they attempting to fool customers. Desserts: I had the Traditional 'Cranachan' Sundae (Whiskey Whipped cream, with Raspberries and toasted Oats). This was Ok but not fantastic as it was essentially a very simple, uncomplex dessert. The other half had the Salted Caramel Panna Cotta, which was very nice for my taste but a tad too sweet for her. We will still return to The Rising Sun again, but re-think some options. Sorry, but as my bio says, I'll big-up the good, but call-out the bad.

Nice lunchtime get together. The food was excellent and the service fast and efficient. There was a good atmosphere. Tables in the restaurant were fully booked. We had a table in the bar area which was quite pleasant. Plenty of parking available. Lots of outdoor seating too.

Lovely welcoming pub with a great outdoor area for nice weather and cosy indoor tables. The roast was amazing and the sticky toffee pudding cheesecake... Incredible. I could eat it again every night! Well done team!

Great place to dine in a relaxed atmosphere. Had the mixed greill, which was lovely but the meat was a little on the tough side, but had nice flavour. Friendly, attentive staff.

We booked a table here for tea on Saturday. The pub was quite quiet. We were served quickly and the food came in good time. We were a party of three and all were pleased with their food. We would eat here again.
