The posted reviews about the Railway Inn provide a completely different picture to our experience on a mid week lunch. If an eating establishment advertises an opening time of 12 noon then everything from a bowl of soup up to a veritable feast should be available at that time. Upon our arrival we were 'ushered' to a table and left, without a word, to our own devices. The "usher" was a person we assume to be the manager. However, a stained teashirt and jogging trousers did not present an image of professionalism and, for someone in the food industry, it just wasn't acceptable. Please believe that I am not a serial complainer. Reviews such as this need to be upfront and honest not insincere flattery. For some time we sat, ignored, watching the staff preparing to commence service, notwithstanding that the premises were already open. Eventually menus were provided but, our request for pre-prandial drinks was given to a retreating back, such was the haste of the staff member. The best part of our visit was the food which was well presented, plentiful and delicious. Perhaps the Chef should take over front of house responsibilities. Norman A Dean
Had a wonderful evening tonight the food was great and good portion sizes too. The service was great and so friendly and the xmas decor was very pretty. Will definately return. The lamb shank with mash and mint gravy..wow..
Very poor meal today, stone cold vegetables, beef gravy served with lamb! Lots of choices missing from the menu. Nice atmosphere but sadly let down by poor food. Sorry will not be returning here anytime soon.
Went for Sunday lunch, staff very attentive, helpful and accommodating. Clean, well decorated surroundings. Varied menu, great portion sizes, even the smaller portions requested by 2 of our party. Fantastic value for money. Would definitely recommend.
First time in the railway and was a nicely presented pub, staff are friendly. Lovely seating area outside for the hot day. Drinks were spot on. However the food wasn't up to par. I had a Mixed grill, all the trimmings and a peppercorn sauce. Now the food was seasoned perfectly, but some of it was over cooked and the rest was mediocre. Steak was supposed to be medium rare instead was well done, chicken was dry, and the egg over cooked. Homemade chips were amazing. My partner enjoyed her food but said the coleslaw was just dry veg. Needed more mayonnaise. We will be back as it wasn't terrible and is very well priced for the food you do get. Everywhere deserves a second chance.
