About us

Situated in the suburb of Cheadle the pub is tucked away from the main hustle and bustle of the high street on leafy Manchester Road close to the pretty Cheshire villages of Wilmslow and Alderley Edge. Standing in the shadow of the old Cheadle Village railway bridge the pub along with the two terraced houses to its right and Ashlea House to its left once belonged to the Abney Hall Estate. The Estate’s gardens which spread out directly behind the pub are popular with local residents walkers and cyclists alike. On warm summer days the patio area is a real sun-trap and buzzes with the chatter of walkers tucking into a pub meal al fresco. Equally when the cold weather sets in the homely charm of The Ashlea is popular with people in the mood for a pint of real cask ale and some hearty pub fare under the antique beams.

Genuinely one of the best meals I've had out in years. The staff were wonderfully welcoming and friendly, despite some tech issues with the tills following the power being switched off. Everything was sorted by the time we were finished but the communication was excellent. The Korean BBQ chicken strips were beautiful, and a very generous portion too. The signature burger was full of flavour and tasty meats, the skin on fries were crisp and flavoursome. The salted caramel sundae was one of the best desserts I've ever had. The layers of different fillings just kept coming! Add to that, the bill was reasonable. Would happily come here again.

Had booked a table for my son and I Sunday lunchtime. Staff were lovely and delivered our drinks while we perused the menu. We ordered the steak and ale pie from the main menu and wild boar burger from the specials menu. Food was fabulous and plenty of it. When ready to leave we went to the bar to pay. As I have mobility issues and cannot stand for very long I paid and left without checking my receipt. When we arrived home I checked the receipt and found that we were charged £4.10 each for the cokes, absolutely scandalous, and for the food I was charged for the pie and a sea trout. No mention of sea trout on the menu and it was definitely not one of our meals. This added around £2 to the bill. Ok, my fault for not checking before we left but how can you be charged for something not on the menu? It's a lovely place to eat with lots of different areas to sit and as I said the food was excellent. However, this was our first and probably last time we will visit as, like most people, I don't like to feel that I've been ripped off especially as the cost of living keeps rising

Come for a meal after work. Food was lovely. We shared a few sharing platters, then I had gammon for my main meal. Both courses were delicious. It's a lovely setting with lots of different little areas to sit. Definitely will be coming back

Aeron took great care of us from the moment we arrived. Excellent service and atmosphere. The live music was a nice touch.
