Lovely traditional pub!! No music! No fruit machines! My type of pub!
I’ve been coming here all my life, but it continues to get better whilst keeping a heritage of the pub and reflecting the culture of the village
I am not sure I can be objective in this case. I have a long and Chequers history starting from 1999 when I moved to Ticknall and Philip Heath, his piano, and the old crooners gathered on Saturdays to sing. It was magic. It's all a part of the history of the Chequers, and it's still a great pub. Walked there from Melbourne as part of a circle through Staunton Harold Reservoir and Calke Abbey. Now that's a good way to experience the Chequers.
What a wonderful place for me to enjoy my very 1st pint during my very 1st visit to England!! If you're looking for an AUTHENTIC pub in the UK with all the trimmings (good beer, spirits, atmosphere, and most importantly good people!) then this is the place you must see. I was sad to leave to come back to the states because I loved this place so much
We called in here on our way back from nearby Calke Abbey in search of food and drink. Although they didn't serve hot food the owner 'Tony' engaged with us in the yard and was very friendly ensuring us that they could serve us up a nice Ploughmans and a chicken salad or a sandwich etc. We had a couple of drinks and very much enjoyed our food. Its a friendly little pub, they do allow dogs. Can't fault other than it not doing hot food.
