Nestled in the Hambleden valley is the Chequers Inn sitting in the heart of the village of Fingest. A beautiful brick and flint public house set in Oxfordshire countryside offering a homely and rural pub feel, throughout all seasons.
The couple at the helm are Jaxon and Emma Keedwell, who have been running a Brakspears' pub for a number of years and have garnered a loyal following. Jaxon is in charge of the kitchen and loves creating simple but well executed fresh food. He utilises his knowledge gleaned from over 20 years cooking to source his food, and to employ local people in order to give his customers a “taste of Oxfordshire”. Accompanied by his wife Emma and the team, the atmosphere is cosy and the pub is thriving in the Oxfordshire countryside. The Chequers pub is a well-regarded retreat by the locals and the garden is the best kept secret in the valley.
What a lovely place and awesome food. A shame the lager was of that day but the food more than made up for that. Gorgeous setting next to an incredible 12th century church that is always open for a look. All in all a wonderful gastro and historical experience!

Fish n chips for me and sirloin steak for my partner yesterday evening…. Both fantastic and delicious. Incredibly attentive and friendly service from the moment we stepped in the front door to when we left. Enjoyed it so much. Sat outside in the lovely garden. So relaxing. Brought our dog too who enjoyed pottering around. Looking forward to next visit
Great food, great service. We sat in the garden and ordered asparagus risotto and the fish and chips. Delicious. However, the best thing was… their Pimms!!!! Might have been the nicest Pimms I’ve ever had
