The Chequers, Chipping Norton
Is a traditional English pub situated in the beautiful town of Chipping Norton, located next door to the theatre. The Chequers is well known for it’s cosy & friendly atmosphere. With three softly lit beamed rooms that are comfortable and full of character. All rooms feature flagstone flooring, low ochre ceilings and log fires. The bar area can be dated back as far as 1444 so the original building has a wealth of history.
There is a light and airy conservatory restaurant behind the bar areas, as well as a separate space to the rear of the restaurant that has been converted from a barn into an ideal party/function/meeting room. The Chequers welcomes children and dogs in the bar area and free wifi is available throughout the building.
The Landlord has both Cask Marque accreditation and is a Fuller’s Master Cellarman. The club plays host to various community groups and is home to the popular Cotswold Comedy Club which takes place on the last Thursday of the month.

Lovely food at a reasonable price. The staff are extremely welcoming and polite! Great pub
This is a superb little pub in Chipping Norton and the Ale is fantastic and the food delicious. Great service, very friendly and absolutely a depiction of what a tradition English pub should be. 1st Class. Loved it.
Food/drink - just the job, we only had soup, a fish finger sandwich and a Diet Coke but can’t fault for the price and convenience. Service - friendly and helpful. Atmosphere - quiet but didn’t expect anything else on a Thursday afternoon. Lovely olde worlde pub!
We spent the weekend in Chipping Norton, so visited the local establishments during our stay and decided this little gem was the best as a traditional pub. Firstly I would like to thank Alex for making us extremely welcome which was very much appreciated in which he his so proud of this pub. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and an extremely good pint of Guinness, the best in Chipping Norton in my opinion. Loved they layout of the pub which keeps its character. Thanks again, and glad the Badger came back safe & Well. Pete & Claire
Unfortunately we had a terrible meal here. The Vegetable Wellington was undercooked, the pastry raw (pretty much inedible),it was served alongside salad straight from a bag, potatoes with no seasoning, gravy or even butter and a sad portion of beans and peas. It was really poor and disappointing. Service was friendly but not very attentive, we were not told about the specials available, no one came to ask how the meal was or if we needed more drinks. I definitely would not recommend eating here.
