The Castle Inn is a traditional family-run 16th Century thatched free house pub and hotel with an extensive food menu (available until 9.30pm every night) and regularly changing local real ales and ciders, near the beautiful Lulworth Cove & Durdle Door of the Jurassic Coastline and surrounded by the Isle of Purbeck countryside. The Castle Inn has been run by the Halliday family for nearly 27 years, over three generations.
We are extremely Dog Friendly, and dogs are allowed throughout the pub and even have their own treats on the bar! Dogs (and other pets!) are also very welcome in our accommodation, please look at our "Dog Page" for more information!
We are renowned for the quality (and quantity!) of our bar meals, which are all locally-sourced and home made where possible! We offer a wide range of dishes and there should be something suitable for everyone!
We have a great reputation for offering one of the largest selections of traditional Real Ciders in Dorset, with a strong focus on West Country producers. We also offer a large range of Real Ales served direct from the barrel, which are chosen from local breweries and quality guest breweries.
We are only a short walk to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, which makes our bedrooms a great place to stay whilst enjoying the area. We are ideally placed for a countless number of walks, through wonderful countryside and along the magnificent South West Coastal Path.

We were lucky to get a table on a Wednesday night! It was very busy and had a lovely atmosphere. The menu had a lot of choices and the food was incredible. The pub itself is well furnished and was spotlessly clean. The food felt very fresh and a lot of effort was shown in the presentation and taste. The gingerbread creme brulee is not to be missed! Would highly recommend to anyone, do not miss this pub if you are in the area.
Every Jan we try to get away as a Xmas gift to each other and this year after a bit of Google map scrolling and a quick look at the reviews we went for The Caste Inn - what a great place it turned out to be. The location was superb, 15 walk to the coast, 30 mins walk to Durdle Door and back, the room had character, plus lots of nice thoughtful touches, the staff were spot on (esp the lady behind the bar in the evening and Jo serving in the dining room), friendly and really helpful. And the food was top notch, lovely steak for £23, with a superb breakfast the next day. And it was great value to stay - highly recommended, ticked every box for us.
We stayed for one night with our cockerpoo and were made to feel so welcome. Didn't get the names of the staff but all were so friendly and attentive. Dinner and breakfast were superb and such great value for money. Would definitely recommend for a short stay 👌
Perfect example of what an English country pub / hotel should be. Room was clean, modern and had all I needed. Restaurant was excellent and the breakfast was food for a champion. Great staff. Don't miss the chance to have a beer and an outstanding meal here.
Quite honestly the best pub I've been to in decades. Came with my family and my mum. The team here were exceptionally kind and accommodating as one of my daughters is autistic and asked for separate food. This would have been outstanding alone but then the food came out. Quite simply superb. Mussels the size and taste of which we have never seen before and soup and toastie to die for. The best people, the best food, the best location. We are making plans to come back.
