Opposite Bodiam Castle in the beautiful East Sussex countryside, there’s another local legend - The Castle Inn.
A warm, welcoming and traditional pub, The Castle is the perfect place to find fine food and exceptional ales in Robertsbridge, and rounds off a trip to Bodium Castle in style.
Food here is all freshly prepared, using locally sourced produce wherever possible. Even the children’s menu is all homemade, making The Castle Inn the ideal choice for a memorable family meal or a weekend breakfast.
It’s a special spot for a quiet drink too though - never more so than in summer, when the sun shines on the large terraced garden at the back of the pub.
Indeed, with the glorious garden opening out to the rolling Sussex Downs, offering stunning views of the river and steam railway, the pub’s superb alfresco scene almost threatens to steal the castle’s crown as Bodiam’s favourite summer attraction.

Booked in here on a Saturday afternoon with our camper and booked in for an evening meal. We were Allowed to stay overnight in the car park if we book a meal. Fantastic location opposite Bodiam castle and a lovely cosy pub with open fire. Service, food and atmosphere was all first class and could not fault a thing. Thank you for a lovely Saturday, we will definitely be back.
Great pub to have lunch after visiting the castle and a walk. Food was great, we had the goats cheese baguette which was lovely and well priced. Plenty of high chairs for kids and the staff are efficient and friendly. Great all round pub!
Great vegan options and huge portions (photos taken when halfway through ) Particularly loved the katsu curry chips and nice to have something different on the menu than the obligatory vegan burger and chips. We had the tofu sandwich which was lovely and served with vegan coldslaw and salad. Lovely garden a few minutes walk from the castle. Good size children's meals so toddler was stuffed. One vegan and one vegetarian kids option.
Lovely place with a huge terrace and open green space for kids or pets. The food was quick and was good. Big plates for decent prices. Costumer services was good, waitress was really kind and helpful to answering our questions as we were a big group. Considering we were a big group food was quick to come.
Wow what a great little find. So on our way to our fiends cottage and saw this lovely pub which couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s lovely and cozy, great choice of beers, wines and Prosecco’s plus the food is amazing. I had a starter or Crispy Gyoza dumplings with chilli dipping sauce and have to say absolutely amazing. They also have a lovely dining room, my thanks to Wendy for looking after us
