Having known this pub for over 45 years as a family we decided to take our parents here for lunch. The new refurbishment has been done very tastefully. We went for Sunday lunch (6 of us). We all had various roasts, beef, belly pork and chicken. Sadly the food was very disappointing, particularly the Belly of Pork - which was inedible - very very tough meat (little of it) and no crackling. My brother had chicken which he said was tasteless - a chicken drum stick (?) and chicken thigh, very bland and obviously 'vac-packed' heated and served. Roast potatoes were tiny frozen hid under the meat, none of the roasted veg were peeled/glazed (as per pictures on website), cauliflower cheese (which we paid extra for) was appalling, just boiled cauliflower and a bit of grated cheese (no sauce). I think they were rolling lunches out like school dinners - very quick and lost any wow factor. The staff however, were very friendly and efficient.. It is not a cheap lunch - our service charge (automatically added was £30 for 6 people!)! I think they need to rethink OR re-evaluate - people don't mind paying for good food or service but don't go back if its poor and sadly tell others. I would suggest they have 'secret shoppers' now & then so they can see it from a customers prospective. Tables are far too overcrowded - no need to serve veg, gravy, etc in small separate dishes. Well that was our view, we will not be eager to revisit at this stage.
We have visited the Cart & Horses a few times since it was reopened with new management and after today felt like I just had to leave a review! To begin, the decor is exquisite, but more importantly, the service is so personal with extra touches like complimentary bread whilst you wait for your meal, to the manager Ben introducing himself and ensuring we were well looked after. It was a super busy Sunday and the food was so beautiful. I couldn’t recommend it enough!
An absolutely fabulous dining experience due to the quality of the food, the menu and lastly but by no means least the wonderful service from Freya, an attentive, polite, happy, pleasant, professional and efficient you lady. A credit to the cart and horses. Keep up the great work.
Utterly amazing !! We both had the pork belly roast and it was delicious. Maybe the best roast I’ve had out actually. Outside seating area is lovely. Maybe portion size they could work on but apart from that 9.5/10
Adding a review for our Sunday Lunch - We had a truly excellent meal, in the rain under the canopy and were kept super warm with heaters, blankets and the fire. The food was superb again and we were served by Millie and Grace who could not do enough for us. Paul the Assistant manager was fully visible throughout ensuring the smooth running of the place. We wanted lots of gravy and they ensure we had all we needed. I HIGHLY recommend this pub and well worth a visit! The new Cart and Horses is wonderful. I have lived in Kings Worthy for over 25 years and seen the previous iterations and this is by far the best it has ever been. The food, menu and drinks are perfect and the service is attentive and fast. The staff culture is the most authentic and friendliest it has ever been, and it is wonderful having a local that is pet friendly, people friendly and have super focus on ensuring customers have a great experience. Thank you so much. Today Nellie served us and she was truly excellent. Paul the assistant manager is always visible and so keen to help. So a huge thank you from me, I love it here, and see you soon!
