The Carew Arms boasts fresh country air, picturesque views and a rich and interesting history, perfect for family or friends. There are many places to walk and take in the fantastic scenery, whether its up the Quantock Hills or down through the country villages, you can always rest your feet, have a refreshing real ale or even stay overnight in one of our 6 comfortable rooms perfectly suited for long or short-term accommodation.
The business is owned by husband and wife team, Iain and Emma Kirkpatrick, who have been part of The Carew now for almost nine years. We are extremely lucky to have Jamie Brooks as our chef. Jamie has a fantastic reputation, having worked both internationally and locally, and was born in Crowcombe – a true local! Our bar staff and wait staff are all committed to provided a great level of service, with a smile.
This pub is basically paradise. I met up with old friends for a hiking trip after ten years away. We’d planned a pub stop but hadn’t hoped for much; the complete charms of this place as a pub are not readily apparent online. But it is glorious: roaring fire, friendly locals, snug room, joyous interior, good old fashioned food, fantastic beer. The Exmoor Gold was on top form, and the last few pints of the barrel were singing. Nothing about this place is forced or calculated, it’s built from years of love and use. When it was time to leave and keep hiking we all paused a moment, knowing once we were out that door, something would be gone forever. But the memory remains. What an absolute joy.
A traditional pub with a cosy separate bar area. The menu is a traditional choice of steaks, burgers, fish and chips, plus starters and desserts. An excellent range of beers, decent cider and guinness, the wines are also decent. Service was very good. A separate area for table meals.
Disgraceful behaviour. We exchanged multiple emails and agreed 1:45pm table. We turned up a few minutes late with 3 hungry children and you turned us away. Knowing full well we wouldnt be able to find anywhere else to eat. You appalling establishment. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Never have I seen anything so inhospitable. Genuinely disgusted at your behaviour.
Really brilliant stay here as part of two days walking the ridges and combes of the Quantocks. The pub has a warm welcome with comfortable rooms. Food is excellent. We sat with a bunch of welcoming and friendly locals in the front room with the fire. We'll be back!
Good place for a short stay. Stayed for two nights to attend our daughters wedding at Crowcombe Court. A few minutes walk away. Carew arms is an exceedingly quirky old Inn in absolutely gorgeous surroundings. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Rooms are clean and ours was spacious with a super king size bed and plenty of complimentary tea and coffee in room with complimentary toiletries in bathroom that had a shower over bath supplied with white towels. Breakfast is cereal, cooked food is at an extra cost. Our room was over the wooden bowling alley and could hear every roll of the ball, great for the children. Outside has a garden with beautiful views of the area. Would recommend that if eating cooked meat, ask for it to be cooked more. Don't expect all mod cons, this is an old quirky Inn in much need of some TLC. Definitely would stay again.
