About us

Taken over by Piersland Inns (of Piersland House Hotel, Troon fame), the Canny Man underwent a full and stylish refurbishment in May 2007. Although it is tricked out in traditional stone, wood and flock wallpaper, it looks like a city-centre style bar.

Even the big pictures of the Highland cows in the dining room look in anticipation. Enjoy all the drinks you might ever expect or want. And the food offer plays the major part in The Canny Man's attraction and popularity. Delightful fresh food is served daily, with mouth watering lunch and evening menus complemented with daily specials. The food runs from simple fish'n'chips to more jazzy meals like medallions of pork fillet with poached apricots and a mustard and cider sauce.

Had lunch and it was tasty and service was excellent. Very friendly. Unfortunately January had taken its toll and wasn’t busy but can’t fault service or food. One criticism would be the roaring fire was obstructed by a table sat right in front. This for some would be a definite plus to enjoy. I know it would mean losing a table for 2 but would enhance the experience for diners

The Canny Man is a delightful bar and restaurant that offers delicious Scottish cuisine and a welcoming dog-friendly atmosphere. The menu features a range of traditional Scottish dishes, such as haggis, neeps, and tatties, as well as modern twists on classic favorites. The cozy ambiance and friendly staff make it a perfect spot to enjoy a meal with friends and family, including your four-legged companions. Whether you're looking for a savory meal or just a relaxing drink, the Canny Man is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a taste of Scotland and a pet-friendly environment. They even have a band on occasion! Eve & Lolly

This was a lovely little find on a miserable Tuesday afternoon. The restaurant is lovely and has lots of tables and parking (although the car park needs some attention!) The food was fresh, piping hot, and tasted delicious. There was a lunch time menu on which is great value for 2-3 courses. Lots to choose from too. The young lady who served us was fantastic. She was friendly and chatty and couldn’t have done more for us. She told us about the ceilidh band and the Sunday roast selection, so we are looking forward to returning for that. The cherry on the cake is that we can bring our dog too! Editing to note that the lovely server we had before, and again this week, was Louise. She is full of smiles and honestly couldn’t do enough for us. She talked us through the new festive menu and what adaptions could be made for out coeliac granddaughter. Fabulous service and lovely food.

Was cold we kept jackets on. Great attention to detail of gf from waitress. Kids pasta sauce was so sweet like tomato sauce was poured through it...did advise waitress for chef. Burgers and Steak pie was great so a mixed visit as service was also great.

Warm welcome which is always pleasant. Server was happy to offer something off menu when I asked. Premises are very clean and decorated nicely. I had the chicken Tempura starter which was delicious and followed that up with the Steak and Ale Pie which unfortunately was not. The meat was tough and the root veg a little tough. Gravy, pastry and chips were good at least. Server apologised and offered a 10% discount which was appreciated despite not eating 80% of my main. Would maybe still come back 👍🏻
