About us

The Royal Oak is an 18th-century public house in the village of Hail Weston, Cambridgeshire. This Grade II listed building served as a social centre of Hail Weston life for generations but was sold by the Charles Wells Pub Company in November 2011 and closed as a pub on January 1st 2012.

There followed a long campaign by the Hail Weston Community Pub Society to save The Royal Oak from redevelopment. This led to it being declared an Asset of Community Value in 2013 which effectively stopped it being sold as anything but a working pub.

In January 2017 The Royal Oak was bought by a group of eight local villagers and, with the help of over 100 community volunteers, the building has been refurbished and reopened as an independent village pub on May 19th 2017.

We look forward to The Royal Oak again being back at the heart of the community.

A very nice village pub, sat inside as hot outside although garden looked pleasant. Mainly Sunday roasts on the menu. Only ones in restaurant as most outside so no atmosphere. Food looked lovely but although a good serving of pork there was a lot of fat. The only vegetables that were cooked were the potatoes. The carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and beans were virtually inedible as knife would not cut them and very hard. It’s a great shame as it really is a pleasant pub.

I go there with my wife or friends occasionally as it has a warm and friendly atmosphere. It is also dog-friendly. There's normally a fire in the winter and the garden at the rear is great during the warmer weather.

Keeps me coming back this place. I am local, but then again there are plenty of other places around. Atmosphere is good, inside is roomy and a good size garden for the sunny days. Can get busy at times. Food is good. Choice of beverage is also adequate for the location and size of the PUB. Service is also good.
