Went for lunch with my husband today… service appalling, understaffed. Food was less than satisfactory. I ordered rib eye steak medium rare… it was more medium. My husband had the Sunday roast pork which was tough. The Yorkshire pudding and the veggies had been frozen so not good. We ordered drinks and waited 20 minutes. The bill for two starters , two mains and two drinks each was over £63… not worth the money, poor experience. Didn’t complain but won’t return nor recommend

Out n about today so stopped in for lunch. Nice n toastie inside, was shown to a table quickly & drinks order taken. I went for the fish n chips with mushy peas, huge piece of fish with nice crispy batter and good chips. Hubby had the rump steak well done with chips and deep fried onion. No puddings as both filled up. Both meals were really good, service was good, setting was good so all in all good! Happy days! If in the area its a good place to go and i would go back again. Enjoy 👍

The Caledonian Hotel was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room was well decorated. We did, however, have a towel with a hole in it, and the water pressure in the shower was adequate. There was no room service. There wasn't even a phone in the room, but for a place to put your head down, it was fine. The walls are also fairly thin, the person in the room next to ours had an alarm that went off at 7am and they'd either left the room and forgotten about it or were very heavy sleepers as it did not stop. Breakfast was lovely, although haggis was in place of black pudding and lorne sausage (flat sausage) in place of normal link sausage. The menu also suggested there would be more toast available. The wasn't. The breakfast waitress was lovely, very welcoming, and a smile that seemed natural and not forced. The hotel is set a stones throw from the high Street, not much to offer some charity shops and a few boutiques, and a barber right across from the hotel my husband was able to get a walk in appointment and get his hair cut. Carpark was first come, first serve, though there did seem so be plenty parking not many marked disabled though Downside, the rooms are all up flights of stairs with no lift. My fault for not asking but something to take into consideration.

We stood for 10 minutes with 2 children to be seated when there was no more than 10 customers in the place whilst the staff completely ignored us. Another 20 minute wait for menus, GF tablet didn’t work so another wait for a staff member to appear, then bring a massive allergen folder which was an utter nonsense - absolutely no knowledge from the staff about allergen free dishes available, the tech is 100% relied on, so if that breaks, you’ve had it. The supervisor did try to help but by that time we were completely disengaged and had had enough of the appalling service. When I spoke to the supervisor before leaving, as we didn’t order in the end - tech not working was the excuse. I won’t be back.

The staff and management at the Caledonian (affectionately called "The Cally" by locals) were the highlight of our stay. They went above and beyond to ensure the comfort of their guests, and we recognized that they ran everything from the front desk to the restaurant, and all in between. Tireless and hospitable across the board! Bravo! The hotel itself is modernized, with clean and well decorated rooms. The duvets were heavenly and housekeeping was a good sport at putting up with us occasionally asking for more biscuits. The showers and washrooms are full of new appliances, with fresh towels daily. The restaurant offers a spacious menu with a large selection of local beer, cider, and wine. Plenty of places to sit. My sister and I ate there once a day and were never disappointed. The prices are reasonable and compare to any other pub/restaurant in the area. The only minor, minor downside was that the Wi-Fi signal was typically hit and miss. We could not access it much in our bedroom but if we stood in the stairwell, it worked fine. Overall, we highly recommend the Caledonian Hotel in Leven and promise you won't regret it!
