We stayed here over Christmas & were very disappointed with our room. We were on a coach trip & we were last sitting at lunchtime & dinnertime, sometimes there wasn't the choice of food we would have preferred. When we complained, the Manager had an answer for everything my Husband raised. Needless to say we won't be returning to this particular Hotel. We enjoyed Harrogate & would like to come back again for another visit.
An old Victorian hotel in the heart of Harrogate with free parking out front and just a 10 minute walk to Betty's tea rooms, The Royal spa and shops so a great base for visiting the area. The hotel was much better than expected for the price we paid. We were there for a group Christmas meal and disco on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. The Christmas meal was great hot, quick, good portions and great quality. Breakfast (served in a very once grand ball room with the most beautiful stained glass windows!) was the same too with lots of choices. Really couldn't fault anything. The staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms where as you would expect in an old British spa town hotel a bit dated and creaky with some noise travel from corridor areas but if you want generic and shiny stay in the Travelodge down the road.
Friendly welcome on arrival, room was lovely and beds comfortable. A lot of noise from the people in room above and my daughter didn't sleep well because of it. For our evening meal we had a bar meal was good but personally would liked to have my gravy in a small jug rather than my food swimming in it. Wasn't asked it I had any allergies to any food. Over all would stay here again.
I’ve seen some hyper critical reviews and that’s what they are. Thus is a beautiful old very big Victorian building in remarkably good elegant condition. Very well organised, obliging friendly staff and excellent reasonably priced food including a generous breakfast. What more can I say it’s a great place to stay with ample car parking five minutes on foot from the town centre
Expectations have a lot to do with a stay at the Cairn. If you book here expecting a modern hotel experience you've not done your research, we booked despite the bad reviews because we know what to expect from beautiful old buildings, and that's character and charm beyond what you see at first sight. The staff are all perfectly pleasant especially the gentleman at reception who checked us in, who we had a really good chat with. Yes the decor is tired, but a building this size requires massive investment and this needs to be done in stages and with care and attention. Everywhere is clean and tidy, the room was massive compared to some of the more modern hotels we've stayed in, and the grandeur of the place is stunning. The whole building is brimming with history, which offers much more than any modern bland hotel, the building has its own personal warmth and inviting atmosphere. Breakfast choices were plentiful and of a good quality, as were the offerings at the hotel bar. We've loved our stay here, and appreciate the buildings history and what the current owners are trying to achieve, and we wish them every success with it. Thank you for a fantastic stay, we will be back.
