About us

With original beams and fireplaces from the 1600s this former coaching house has an olde-worlde look that blends seamlessly into its village setting close to Worthing. You'd never guess from the pub's warm welcoming atmosphere that its fascinating 400-year history includes a stint as Goring's mortuary. The legend of this era when the cellar was used as the town's main morgue lives on though with the pub said to be haunted by as many as four ghosts. Today The Bulls Head is a community pub with bags of character and is popular with families dog walkers and beach-goers. Just a few thousand people call Goring-by-Sea home and this small seaside village has a friendly laid-back vibe. Picture-postcard beach huts and beachfront cafés line the seafront where the sloping sand-and-pebble beach is a haven for kite surfers and dog walkers. Goring-by-Sea's claims to fame include inspiring the name of the Lord Goring character in Oscar Wilde's play ‘An Ideal Husband' following the literary legend's stay in the village during the summer of 1893.

Absolute blinder of a pub. It’s changed so much since we were last here. Niall and Heidi have done a tremendous job! Atmosphere is amazing and wasn’t a spare seat in the house in January! Tremendous.

We have been twice to The Bull in the last 3 days, and they did not disappoint. The pub is clean and tidy, and the staff were very welcoming. Despite being extremely busy on both days, we were still able to order lunch, being informed of wait times. The food on both occasions was fantastic and we were very well looked after. Would I recommend this pub? 100% yes, and we look forward to returning when we are next down visiting from Bury St Edmunds.... 🙂

We had an outstanding experience at the Bull. We went with low expectations due to a few bad experiences some years ago which had put us off visiting again but we are really glad that we did return. The staff were friendly, welcoming and very efficient. The meal was excellent - we had the Festive Menu - plenty of choice and beautifully cooked and presented. The whole ambience was lovely. We will definitely be going back again. A real quality experience.

I had a trio roast yesterday and it was lovely and great value and the mince pie sundae was incredible, no photo for that as I devoured it in minutes. Great service too.

Well where do I start!( why from the beginning I suppose 🤪!) Yesterday (Saturday 14/10/23) I visited The Bull via work colleagues who said positive things about your establishment- and they weren’t wrong. Travelling from Chichester, I had a coffee and explored the garden before ordering wine(pictured) which was good value but the Chickpea Curry was spicy and just right even the fragrant rice was so good I asked the barman the recipe, simple enough but delicious. Finally I would like to say that the latter as well as the nice Waitresses service was 1st rate as well as the ambience of the customers. I had a weekend that I will never forget and I do hope ( work pending) that I will return soon. Once again thank you for your hospitality.
