About us

Bordering the Chilterns and nestled in the village of Prestwood, this stunning Grade II listed building originally came to life as a 17th century hunting lodge. Jump forward a couple of hundred years and the uniquely-named Polecat has enjoyed modern life as a popular local inn, with a reputation for food and hospitality that's worth travelling for.

Following an extensive, yet sympathetic redesign and refurbishment, the Polecat is the very best example of a contemporary country pub. The traditional bar and cosy fire places have been supplemented with a new glass-fronted restaurant accommodating an open theatre-style kitchen and wood-fired pizza oven. We have also given the spacious gardens a tender makeover and added a significant extension to the car park.

The menu begins in the morning with breakfast and runs straight through the day and evening, featuring an imaginative and delicious range of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan dishes together with daily specials. With an emphasis on Mediterranean-inspired, freshly-cooked food, our chefs can be seen plying their craft over the Josper charcoal ovens and grills in an open kitchen. Our freshly made offer includes hand-crafted authentic Italian Pizzas, baked to perfection in our wood-fired pizza oven.

Cosy up, relax and simply enjoy our broad range of cocktails, real ales, fine wines, gins and spirits. Our extensive and varied drinks menu includes high quality Artisan coffee brewed with Rainforest Alliance certified beans from estates in Colombia and Brazil, together with a fine selection of teas from Teapigs. Not forgetting our delicious hot chocolate made with Callebaut chocolate shavings and warm, steamed milk. We also support local businesses and thoroughly recommend a pint of Malt Brewery ale, produced by Jenny and Nick, only half a mile from the pub.

Everyone is welcome at the Polecat, whatever the occasion; a pint with friends, a relaxed meal out or a special occasion. Superfast, complimentary wi-fi is available throughout the building.

We had a pod outside to ourselves. Was absolutely lovely. The 4 of us had not had a chance to really catch up in ages. We had no distractions. 1 of us is hard of hearing. He loved the fact that he could hear everything being said clearly. The Chicken berger is pretty good too

Food was really nice and had lots of home cooked feeling meals. The vegetarian options were really good and the butternut squash, mushroom and spinach pie was delicious. We sat in the pods outside whilst it was freezing outside the pod temperature was perfect and was nice to have your own space.

It's hard to beat the Polecat. The old pub section retains its charm with comfortable seats and a wood-burning stove, while the restaurant section is more modern but offers great views into the huge gardens. In the summer, you can easily spend an afternoon out there, putting the world to rights. The food is generally good; the pizza in particular. I haven't tried enough of the rest of the menu to comment, but I'm told the breakfasts are great too. This isn't a pub for real ale drinkers. There are only three ales on draft (London Pride and local brewery Rebellion from memory), but there's a decent selection of lagers. Overall, the best gastropub in the area.

Birthday lunch with my daughter, out to dinner later to celebrate so both of us had something light. Fish finger sandwich & shared chorizo scotch egg. Food was excellent. Preferred restaurant area but chose to dine in pub area as we had our dog with us , the service was great too.

First time visiting The Polecat Inn...I really enjoyed the food, I had some Harissa chicken which was fantastic. The chicken slid off the bone (insert gag here) I also had the Diovalo (hope I spelt that right) pizza. Again this was very nice, I couldn't eat the whole thing as it was a bit too much for me, but if I had a bigger stomach I would definitely have done so. For dessert I shared a sticky toffee pudding which was very nice also. Hard to get wrong, but I'm sure some places have done so. The pub itself is quite a nice spot, plenty of spaces to park, and pretty decent toilets as well. We were sat in a pod which was a nice experience, I've not been in one before anywhere else. Would I recommend The Polecat Inn, I would, the food is very good, and the service is pretty decent too, we had quite an attentive waiter servicing us and despite being outside he made us feel included within the whole pub.
