Had not visited for many years and definitely not since the full refurbishment. Great British pub food, stunning interior and open fire. Had chicken club sandwich and a pint. Felt like the perfect old English pub experience and I'll be back.

I've had some lovely meals in here, but as somebody who often arrives into the village in the evening, the last 3 times the kitchen has closed a good hour before the advertised time. Each time I've already ordered a pint, and this time I'm sat drinking it while writing this because I would have stopped elsewhere if I knew. As 'the' pub in a small village, if your kitchen closes sometimes before 19:48 [time of pint payment], don't advertise it as 21:00.

A lovely pub with a good varied menu of food choices and plenty of drink opinions to cater to all. Have visited a few times now and have enjoyed an excellent lunch on each occasion. The pub offers quaint traditional seating in the bar, a more modern, comfortable conservatory extension and a covered beer garden. Food is always excellent and staff always friendly and helpful. Make a point of stopping by when in the area and will be returning.

We went here for lunch because it’s mentioned in The Running Grave by Robert Galbraith. We received a warm welcome from the manager who allowed us to choose our table and bought a high chair for my granddaughter. We were offered water immediately while we made our choices. The menu was varied and our food was tasty. We’d ordered a side of chips which didn’t come out with our sandwiches, for which we received an immediate apology and the slightly late chips were comped. The service became a little slow after that. We would have quite liked to see the dessert menu but we didn’t see the manager again and the barman/waiter was based round the corner in the bar so we didn’t see him either. The place has recently been refurbished and ‘the cave’ was interesting but looked claustrophobic for a large party.

Stunning venue. We sat in the garden. No service in the garden area we were told repeatedly. Had to go to the bar inside where one new bar maid was really struggling. Did not know how to make a Pimms. Bless her she was trying. Three people assisted eventually to make a cup of tea, two Pimms and a bottled cider. They were definitely short staffed and frustrated manager was not too pleased. It was a Bank Holiday weekend and I am not sure if they were not expecting to be busy or staff had let them down. The Food that passed us looked yummy. Half sausage rolls which I kept saying were for my friends.... mischievous as usual. I will go back. Hope more staff available cause I really enjoyed that cider.
