This is a quaint hotel with good size rooms, a nice little pub and friendly bartenders. On the downside, the rooms were dusty and had cobwebs, the thermostat on the heater was broken and so it got really hot and then we just ended up turning it off. We let the staff know, but they didn’t seem to know how to fix it. There are not any water cups or bottled water in the rooms. One of our two coffee cups was dirty. The bed mattresses were very soft and springy but I slept ok. The wall and window in the bathroom leaked rain in and got our belongings wet. We let the staff know and they said knew about the problem and would fix it after we left. They don’t change the beds daily, so let them know if you want that to happen. On a good note, the shower was really strong and hot, but there wasn’t really a way to turn the temperature down, so it was borderline too hot. The rooms have thin windows and you will definitely hear the pub patrons when they go outside for a smoke and chat, or when they leave for the night. It can be a bit loud until maybe 11:30pm. The room comes with breakfast in the pub which is nice. A full English breakfast is hearty and well done. Coffee is not great. Morning pub staff is friendly and attentive. A guy who seemed to be the manager seemed pretty light of the ability to be friendly and accommodating. Overall, if you can get a room for under £100 it might be worth it. Seems like they could improve on a few basic things like cleaning and service and I would have given a better review. It’s. A nice location and a short walk to Old Amersham. We enjoyed the food and coffee at The Grocer at 15. Cheers.

Probably the dirtiest, coldest, poorly maintained "hotel room" I've ever stayed in....and I paid £110 for the pleasure. I'm not about hurting small businesses but this was totally unacceptable, and wasn't a one off by the state of it. Let me run through the issues: 1) Carpet was disgusting, black traffic stained in the entrance, dirty spill marks all over it. NOT EVEN VACUUMED! 2) Dirt and bits of rubbish all over the floor. Not been cleaned for several guests by my guess. 3) Cups not and spoons not washed, still coffee stains on everything. 4) Kettle caked in dust and has loose connection and took lots of effort to turn on. 5) Cobwebs everywhere. 6) Shower was grim. Limescale and mould everywhere. Heavy descaling needed it's that thick. 7) The shower barely worked! See my video. You had to take the shower head off just to get a dribble of water out and water was barely warm. 8) COLD!!! The heating turned ff at around 11pm. It was freezing. Ypu could see your breath it was that cold. Never have I had to sleep in 2 jackets, 2 pairs of pants, socks under a duvet. Not even a spare heater in the wardrobe. 9) Traffic noise!!! Single glazed front window. You can feel every car, hear every foot step outside. Why not add a second double glazed interior window? 10) Ladies toilet under the room. Can hear the hand drier all night. 11) The smoking shelter is at the entrance to the room. The room stunk of smoke all night. 12) The bannister wasn't safe and could break. It was looser than a cat on heat. 13) No wifi 14) No parking. Had to park a few streets away. This wasn't clear in the advertisement. 15) Tacky pink bulb in lamp. 16) Quite possibly the worst sleep I've had. Plus points. 1) Sheets were clean. 2) Breakfast was nice. I have stayed in some dives but at least they were clean and appropriately priced. This was priced as much as a 4 star chain hotel with the cleanliness and standard of a squat/drug den. FYI this review is about the front room above the toilets. I can't speak for any of the other rooms but I would not return to try.
