Friendly welcome from all staff. Room overlooking the river, bed comfortable and bathroom great. Breakfast choice was good, I had full English every morning, spot on. Don't know why anyone complains about this place. The whole stay was great, would definitely stay here again. Thanks to everyone.
Me and my family (5 of us) had lunch here on a Thursday in the Christmas holidays, we thought we were lucky because they seemed busy and they started to not let people eat here once we'd been placed. I'm usually more optimistic when things go wrong but pretty much every aspect of this pub was lacking. They sat us at a table with not enough chairs and we had to ask if we could have another one, which was fine but it seemed like they should have just done that immediately. They brought us some water and then took our drinks and food orders after a while of waiting, they were busy which is understandable. After a long wait our food arrived but considering the prices, which were about £9/10 per person the portion sizes were very poor. We got the fish and chips, sandwich and soup but all were quite sad and it was slightly unexpected. There were few chips with the thin fish and my soup came with two sad nobs of bread. Admittedly the soup did taste really nice which gives them an extra star, just wish there was more. At this point our drinks hadn't even arrived. We asked about them to get a rather unhelpful response that the bar was sorting them without them seeming to ask them if they were coming. We only ordered some fizzy drinks and tea. The waiting staff seemed just uninterested and I get it, it is hard in service, but we were nice and we weren't rude - just asking about the things you would expect to get. It just was all a bit disappointing considering the prices you would expect better. Don't know if small towns are just more expensive but would definitely go somewhere else next time, there seems like quite a few places about the area I'd rather try. Wish id taken some photos but I didn't think about it since didn't think they were photo worthy.
Booked a roast meal for 9, 7/1/24. Overall we didn't find the food anything extraordinary. The 3 beefs were overcooked and tough, and 1 rice dessert dish was undercooked with hard rice. The experience was made worse with confusion over the bill - with numerous mistakes as regards to overall price and the free childs meals. We expected better
Won't be drinking in here again. Card only payment! Don't be complicit in a cashless society. You're in a small rural town not the centre of Leeds! Lots of other drinking establishments in Holmfirth who will happily take cash. Don't support this nonsense.
Went for a family meal for mum's birthday, staff were really nice and couldn't do enough, food was delicious and plenty of it. I had the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding Sunday lunch, no room for pudding, definitely be back soon.
