The Spitting Feathers brewery was established in 2005 and has rapidly gained a reputation throughout the North West for brewing quality ales, having won several awards during the time since the brewery started.
At Spitting Feathers’ Brewery Tap our aim is to bring you the best in good, honest food and drink – you might call it “real ale and real food”.
Free from colourings, flavourings and other artificial additives, Spitting Feathers award-winning beers are made only from the finest barley malts, wheat, yeast, hops and water. In the same way all the food at The Tap is freshly prepared from the best seasonal ingredients, sourced wherever possible, from local growers and suppliers including:
Bread from Born and Bread, Wirral
Vegetables from Francis Thomas, Chester
Locally reared meats – Dave Joinson Butchers, Chester Market.
Ice-cream – Cheshire Farm Ice-Cream, Tattenhall.
Meat, salad, vegetables, fruit and honey from the Spitting Feathers farm and brewery in Waverton, Chester, are all used including pork from our rare-breed pigs and our own range of homemade relishes, chutneys, condiments and preserves.

Great place to go! All the food dishes were lovely. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit.
Possibly the best pub in Chester. Excellent ales from Spitting Feathers, the brewery of the "Brewery Tap". Decent food too.
A wonderful historical building with a quality bar and a pleasant well staffed restaurant. The food is great value and beautifully presented. I would highly recommend to anyone. Thanks to all the staff. We would recommend all the food, mine was the Venison and Pheasant Shepherd's pie. Truly gorgeous.
Atmosphere is a history pub atmosphere, with high back seated benches and long tables with candle light on each table. The food was AMAZING!! Full of flavour, taste buds constantly wanting more with the expression everytime you eat of "Mmmm" or "wwww" Starters and Mains is what myself and my partner had and I am already looking forward to returning again. I had the Beef Burger Recommended by the Chef which was moist, flavourful and every bite was delicious 😋 and I'm not a massive burger person but 10/10!
Flight of stairs to overcome, but surprisingly spacious inside. Very high ceilings. Great selection of real and craft ales at a reasonable price. Staff were friendly, beer was wonderful. Enjoyed my visit.
