About us

The Boathouse is one of Shrewsbury's most loved historic pubs. Its stunning location on the banks of the River Severn allows it magnificent views of the river and the Quarry park.

Renowned for its sun drenched terrace and extensive beer garden, it's the perfect place to watch the boats and ducks go by. In the winter the log fire is always lit and hearty grills, roasts and delicious desserts and puddings are served in the oak beamed interiors.

Nice riverside pub, good food but if I'm being totally honest slightly slow service. Food worth the wait, but given how quiet the restaurant was I feel it should have been a bit quicker

Waited over an hour for starters and main. The chef came out the kitchen to tell the FOH staff to slow down the orders as it was getting so busy (fair enough). I noticed the kitchen is tiny and no wonder the chef seemed overwhelmed. The bar is nice and open spaced but it seemed like there was no management in charge and gave off an impression there was lack of service inside the restaurant but was prioritising the outside area. We booked a table in advance and the kind waiter who sat us down and took our order promptly disappeared after. An hour later we began to think we were forgotten about and my 18 month old niece was crying hungry to the point I had to leave the table to get her a sandwich from the shop due to how long we were waiting. Understandably at this point we became frustrated because we noticed the tables who sat down after us received their meal before us. Overall after a long wait, no apology was provided when serving the meals and having worked myself in hospitality a genuine sorry goes a long way. Sadly we not be returning unless we hear of improvements.

Here for the best Sunday lunch, ever. 22 degress today, the place is full of summer. Sunday lunch is Beef and Chicken, wow ! My second experience here is, book your table in advance, be very clear or your be perched outside. When I asked if they had any Belgum beer, the waitress never had a clue or wouldn't let me sit on a table that was booked 3 hours later.

Party of 8, waited over an hour an half for refill of drinks, for pre-ordered deserts took so long(hour after our main course). We had to ask about them. When deserts did come out, felt rushed and presentation was a bit eh.

This pub is set in a fabulous location overlooking the river at Shrewsbury. Sitting outside in the sunshine sipping a beer is lovely. However we were a party of 9 , 7 adults and 2 toddlers. We had a table inside the restaurant. We had to wait a fair amount of time to be served and had to ask twice for the children's menu. We had asked for 2 highchairs so they knew we had toddlers with us. It took roughly 2 hours before we were served our main course. The service was not great we felt quite ignored. We ordered 2 bread and olive plates as part of our starters but received only 1. When our main meals did finally arrive they were luke warm at best. But by this time we could not face asking them to be replaced or re heated. . It was a bank holiday and they were very busy but really not a great excuse. Overall great place for a drink by the river but would not go again for a meal over a weekend.
