I was really looking forward to visiting the castle and town, including the pub, distillery and shops. The Castle was disappointing as only grounds were open, but next stop was the pub. I entered at 10.50 am to and ask if it was ok to have a pint...Unfortunately not till 11... My advice to the woman at reception is, stand up and greet customers when they arrive and smile, say that serving is in several minutes and show them to the bar area. Just found it really poor and jumped in the car and drove to Ripon instead. I will never return to Ripley. Extremely poor customer services.

The Boar's Head is a lovely place to stay. We had room in the Keeper's part of the out buildings. We had a view over the courtyard. The room was great with everything you could need and the bed was extremely comfortable. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. The cooked breakfast was equally fantastic. It is ideally based for visiting the Yorkshire Dales, Pateley Bridge, Fountains Abbey, Ripon, Knaresborough and Harrogate. There is the Castle itself to visit and a cycle route passes through the estate. You can cycle to Knaresborough to the East off roads and West towards Birstwith/ Burnt Yates via Route 67. They have dog friendly rooms. I would thoroughly recommend staying at The Boar's Head.

Booked for lunch with friends. Looked after really well by staff. My fish pie came with a personal recommendation and was delicious. Others in our group were equally satisfied with their choices and we were left too full for pudding. Lovely atmosphere in the bar.
