A deceptively large open-plan pub catering for 120 diners at once. Close to Beamish Museum.

Booked recently for Saturday night meal at the Blue Bell and enjoyed the experience . Place wasn't to busy, pleasant atmosphere and the staff were excellent all evening. Starter was good and we both had lamb dishes for main course which were delicious. Just a few pointers...buy a real coal bucket for the fire...the plastic paint bucket looks naff. A proper laminated drinks menu would a plus rather than a few bits of A4 stapled together. We shall return due to the food and service which is good value however at £5.95 a pint or £3.20 a half ???? I won't be rushing into your bar 🤣.....we will be the wine next time.
Really enjoyed a late supper here. First time that we have been back since new owners. We were well impressed. Tastefully refurbished - not over the top, and certainly not a”chain” feel. We had starters and mains. Too full for desert. The food was lovely and generous proportions. Staff were attentive but not overbearing. We will definitely be back soon.
Good service, friendly staff, excellent food. We decided to have the meat feast for six, delicious. Word of warning don’t have a starter the meat feast is bountiful.
Visited this pub for a last-minute Sunday roast dinner, and it exceeded expectations! The food was top-notch, especially the unforgettable cauliflower cheese and tiramisu. The service was excellent, making it a delightful experience. Definitely planning to come back; highly recommended!
Sadly we left disappointed. The atmosphere and decor is fab. The place was buzzing. Took a while to be offered a drink. We ordered our food. Hot sharing starter and a chicken and shish kebab to follow. The starter came and was luke warm. The Turkish sausage was greasy and salty. Certainly wasn't worth best part of £20. In meantime we finished our drink and waited to be offered another. I had to find a member of staff to order another one. The main of chicken kebab and shish were served on some kind of thin bread and a portion of rice. The rice was sticky. My chicken was completely inedible due to the copious amount of salt. I love savoury salty flavours but this was something else salt wise! I literally only ate the smallest piece of chicken. My husbands shish kebab was salty too but however he ate most of it. The owner did come and apologise on behalf of the chef and the chicken kebab was taken off our bill. Still making our meal £54! My husband was drinking soda and blackcurrant too! All in all a quite expensive evening to come home hungry. Also, I have an intolerance to MSG and spent an hour following with a pounding racing heart. Would we return? No.
