About us

Peter is the Head Chef and has worked at various restaurants around Kent, Suffolk and even New York. He bought his first pub 6years ago in Meopham, Kent and is now excited to be running The Black Pig – the new ‘go to’ place to eat in Tunbridge Wells.

With a passion for great quality food that is hard to match, Peter has worked closely with his team of Chefs to source the best local suppliers and produce varied and interesting menus that focus on delicious, high quality, seasonal dishes. Everything from the fresh bread to the chutneys is homemade and the smell from the kitchen every morning, as the bread is baking for the day, is mouth-watering!

Serving food all day, The Black Pig has several menus available, ranging from our Tapas Menu on a Monday, where you can try a selection of traditional Spanish dishes such as Gambas Pil-Pil and Patatas Bravas or small tasting plates of the dishes that are available every day such as Seabass with Mediterranean Roasted Vegetables and Pesto. Or why not pop in on a Sunday for a delicious Sunday Lunch, which has already been quoted by some as ‘the best roast in Tunbridge Wells’.

Whether you’re looking for a meal in our cosy Dining Room, something a little more relaxed where you can sit in front of our log fire and read the paper with a pint of Harveys in the bar area, or a cold glass of wine in our very own suntrap ‘Secret Garden’ – The Black Pig has the answer and Peter, Jemma and their team look forward to welcoming you soon.

This is the spot for a family meal where no one could possibly leave unhappy or with an empty stomach. Dogs welcome and given equal attention. Lovely Christmas Eve dinner spread, absolutely the best roast (carvery) I’ve had in England. delicious succulent selection of pork, turkey, lamb and beef for Christmas Eve and lashings of the tastiest gravy, crispy hot potatoes and Yorkshire puddings, cauliflower cheese broccoli, pea’s, carrots and cabbage, and a fantastic peppery leek concoction that rounded out the plate. But be warned… you will want seconds, the problem is, YOU CAN. Dessert selection is also unique and large, happily able to top off the meal with something fruity lemony and light or dense and chocolatey you’ll have the option. Great, friendly, service, with the owner mucking in herself just rounded out the joyful family atmosphere.

Food was good if you make the right choices sticking to pub grub. The portions however are extremely generous, even the children's menu, making this good value for money. Staff are very helpful and accommodating. Would go back for a Sunday Roast

It’s very rare I ever give top marks for everything but…. Wow! This place is absolutely amazing. Ive never eaten a roast dinner in a restaurant and thought it was better than my own, but the black horse is on a level with mine but their meat was way better. The staff were absolutely lovely and helpful, approachable and friendly. The dessert was 🤌🏻💋 chefs kiss. The garden is a really lovely spot and it’s just a really chilled out vibe good for all ages and families too. They replenished the food constantly and it smelt amazing. The lamb was so tender and flavourful. Love this place will definitely be recommending and coming back regularly. 10/10

A while ago I met a merry man at a bus stop who told me about this place and swore by it. So it's been on my list of places to go for a while, and I'm glad I finally got to try it. Decided to go for the carvery with my partner and friends. The place is deceptively large as if it looks like a small pub when you first walk in but it stretches quite far back and gets wider as it does. Excellent choice of meats and veg in the carvery, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, and beef! One of the most unexpected surprises was the leek, I could have eaten a bowl of that on its own! However I was so hungry when I arrived I neglected to take any photos of this Puddings are included in the price of the carvery too (£20). I had the orange and honeycomb cheesecake. Very rich and I couldn't eat another bite after I'd finished. The cheesecake had a delicious burnt orange taste to it. Would love to visit again, and try some of the other mains.
