Situated in a splendid walking area, this fine old country inn has early origins (14th century) but was largely rebuilt in 1930
Henry IV was born at nearby Bolingbroke Castle, which was also besieged during the civil war. The battle of Winceby, which was fought a few miles from Bolingbroke in 1643, witnessed the first nationally important victory for Oliver Cromwell's cavalry. Still part of the Duchy of Lancaster, the Black Horse is a great place to visit when exploring the Lincolnshire Wolds. Friday fish night is a speciality and themed food nights also. Lunchtime meals Sat & Sun only. The 3 legged pub cat, Prince Tripod of Turkey, is a celebrity. Opening times shown are for Winter and expand in Summer.
A small country pub, cosy an friendly, very reasonable tariff, interesting memorabilia, really enjoyed our visit

Nigel and Geanie are such good hosts. I always feel welcome. Fish on a Friday is so good, you just have to book.
Shame that this pub only accepts cash!!! Landlord needs to get up to speed with the way society operates. We visited here on a gorgeous sunny day looking forward to a bite to eat and a drink. We were only carrying a small amount of cash, so because the landlord would only accept cash he missed out on a good opportunity to sell us some food. We found this surprising and rather strange. Disappointing and bizarre!!
