The Black Horse is an idyllic country pub set in the heart of the English countryside, with records dating back to 1866. The pub is nestled away in the picturesque Hertfordshire village of Brent Pelham, providing locally sourced, seasonal produce to serve fine cuisine and traditional ales within a warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere in our bar and dining areas. Our extensive wine menu is provided by our London based Sommelier, who has also sourced a fine collection of whiskies. We are a dog friendly pub with a mature landscaped garden, secured to make it safe for children and our four legged friends and perfect to enjoy dining or drinking in the summer months. We also have a private hire room, perfect for birthdays or large party gatherings.
Delicious food and lovely, friendly staff. Great country, dog friendly pub. They even have dog ice cream! The staff were very conscious of dietary restrictions, and we're able to change dishes to suit us. I'm looking forward to going back again soon.
Really lovely, down to earth, friendly pub. Solid menu that also has kids sizing. Service is great, the kind of place where the staff know you and are happy to have a chat, without sacrificing service. Dog friendly, which is so refreshing.
Amazing atmosphere, friendly staff and great food makes this pub now one of my favourites. The quality-quantity-price ratio is excellent. Even the cheese cauliflower side was great, which is not usually something remarkable in most pubs. Will definitely come back.
We often visit this pub especially for the pie night and Sunday roast. Always delicious and served a welcoming smile. Highly recommended for the quaint pub atmosphere and when the weather is good, the outside space too. And don’t forget your pooch !!

This was hands down the most delicious steak I have ever had the pleasure of eating. It was cooked to perfection - juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. Every bite was an absolute delight, and I found myself savoring every moment of the experience. The quality of the meat was exceptional, and it was clear that only the finest ingredients had been used. The seasoning was spot on, and the sides that accompanied the steak were equally as delicious. Overall, I cannot recommend The Black Horse highly enough. If you're looking for a restaurant that serves up the most delicious fillet steak you'll ever taste, then this is the place for you. The combination of quality ingredients, skilled cooking, and excellent service make for an unforgettable dining experience that you won't want to miss.
