The name of this pub and hotel recalls a series of paintings by Edward Burne-Jones, illustrating the theme of Sleeping Beauty. The well-known artist was born in Bennetts Hill, in 1833. Edward Coley Burne-Jones, the famous painter and designer, was born in Bennetts Hill in 1833 and educated at King Edward VI School. Having met William Morris at university, the two men subsequently devoted their life to art.
It's the first time to stay there for us, so we didn't know what to expect. Our room was very clean and comfortable, bathroom spotless and a great shower. The towel rail was a good addition and very warm. If I'm honest, I would think twice about staying again, only because our room was looking out on Bennets Hill and very noisy early morning, so didn't get very good sleep. The lift (elevator if you're American) didn't work at all. Apparently, it's quite often out of service.
Stopped here last night in room 110, cannot fault any part of the hotel for what we needed it for. Which was somewhere to bed down after the new year’s celebrations. My only complaint about the room was the shower it was luke warm on both times of using it. Other than that absolutely brilliant location.
We came into this spoons recently for the first time. With a Wetherspoons you generally know what to expect but with this one we were pleasantly surprised and not just by its unusual ‘boutique’ feel. The place was very busy due to the Christmas market nearby but we were pleased to be served drinks rather quickly and were greeted in a very friendly way. We found a table, after a few minutes, that was vacated by previous diners. The table was cleared away and cleaned quickly and efficiently and we were asked if we’re having a good evening by the waitress. We then decided we would order food as we felt the place was running smoothly despite how busy it was. My husband went to order and I looked around and noticed, who I assumed was the manager, who seemed to have his eye on everything, and seemed to notice every detail, pointing staff in the right direction. My husband wasn’t away ordering as long as expected and the food didn’t take too long to be brought out to us either. We were asked if our food was ok after about five minutes - It was hot and tasty and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Our empty plates were taken away quickly. We had another drink and left. We have to say we were very impressed with everything we saw at this Wetherspoons and will gladly return to it.
Wow what a place! Me and a few friends visiting Birmingham and ended up in the briar rose, really glad we did. We all ordered on the app and our food and drink arrived really quick especially with it being a busy Saturday night! The food was hot and good quality with a big selection of drinks. The lady behind the bar with the pink hair was so lovely and really made our evening. All in all a very good experience with attentive staff quick service and good quality food for the price you pay!
Really good place this. Cheap as chips for a breakfast the beer is well priced too compared to most places. The tables we tended to sit are were usually sticky in places and the menus were sticky too. But other than that the food quality etc was great for what you pay!
