Warm and welcoming. Hall for hire, seating out front with additional seating rain / wind Cover to the side which is fenced off making it child friendly 😀
Recommended. We've been going to this pub for quite a few years now, usually on a Sunday. We've also hired the function room. Real ale is available, Doom last time I went was great. And there's good Guinness (it should be good, it's an Irish pub!). A big "L" shaped bar area on the ground floor, with a central fireplace. Dining area at the top of the L. There's also a large function room available at the opposite end of the L, which has its own bar. That is at the far end of the corridor where the toilets are. There's a few bench tables out front and more seating in screened garden (full of flowers) at the side. Regulars are friendly. Attentive and friendly staff, especially landlady Jane, son James, Shona and chef Marie. There's frequent entertainment, including the excellent Karaoke DJ Ricky on a Sunday at the end of each month who starts 5pm-ish (sporting events shown on the TVs dotted around can delay start).... confirm when events are on by Facebook page, or phoning. It's on the 469 bus route and your stop is helpfully announced as "The Birchwood" - bus stops right outside. The street outside is unrestricted, park where you want (except on the bus stop!).
Fairly quiet on a very hot Sunday, in for a roast. Previous reviews have commented on staff and welcome, tick, quality and quantity of food(Roast Lamb/Beef), tick, followed by JELLY AND ICE CREAM or banoffee pie, tick tick. Excellent value for money, very cool, quiet and open dining room. Visitors welcome, we came from Abbey Wood Caravan site, a few minutes drive. Heartily recommended.
Absolutely loved the Sunday Roast here. Great value for money and the staff are really welcoming and friendly. Also you can actually have a quiet conversation and a calming Sunday roast as, while there is music, it's from the other bar down the hallway.
