About us

The pub's name comes from a local legend of a 'cunning man' - a good wizard who would help to protect people from dark spirits and witches. The original building was destroyed following repeated flooding, however the newly re-built pub-restaurant has been impressively restored in its original style - complete with thatched roof.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

Had a great meal here with my family. Had steak as well but no photo unfortunately. Max was our waiting staff and was awesome.

Visited once in the summer and used an app code, was great value and pizza was made to a high standard which is what you would expect from the price. Tried it out one Sunday, honestly for what you pay its not worth it, took over an hour for starts to come which arrived at the same time as the main even after stating we didn't want them if they came with the main. Over priced roast with slow service.

We went in as a group of 12, with having selected the menu in advance before arrival. In my case being a vegetarian, the options were limited. Regardless, having ordered in advance, the service was very slow. It was about an 60-80 mins before the starters arrived. My starter was soup of the day, it appeared to be leek but was not tasty at all. It was very watery and left more than half. The mains I selected was Aubergine Parmigiana, which was not too bad, however I would not consider this to be value for money. The dessert was Mango & passion fruit Pavlova(good presentation). I would not order again, but this may just be me as I found it very sweet and no taste of passion or mango. In terms of atmosphere, the seating arrangement was very cramped. Very disappointed overall.

We had a wonderful family dinner at Cunningman on a Thursday night. This is where I always bring my friend here with the ambient atmosphere. I love the pork belly as always and the new menu bring the skews to the table is a decent surprise as well! I also want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Mollie! It was a pretty busy night but she managed to take care of all of our little requests. much appreciated! Now I am looking forward to our Christmas dinner here!

Stopped here for brunch on a recent boating holiday with friends, it was a lovely friendly pub and had a nice cozy feel to the place although the pub is quite large it has been segregated into smaller areas giving it a more private and intimate feel . Food and service was excellent and we were amazed at how our waitress could remember all 5 of our orders including drinks without writing anything down and everything was correct when delivered to the table , a very enjoyable experience all round. Unfortunately we didn't take any pictures in the pub but I've uploaded some from Charlie the blue monkey Instagram page that we took on our holiday
