The Crown & Horns is a beautifully renovated and refurbished country inn nestled in the heart of West Berkshire's racing countryside.
Our 11 individually designed en-suite rooms (from £55 per room per night) are clustered around a kitchen courtyard, and with roaring log fires, oak beams, lots of real ales and simple, fresh, locally sourced food, The Crown & Horns is the perfect stop over for business and leisure travellers.
Didcot town centre is 8 miles, Newbury 10 miles and Oxford 23 miles from the Crown & Horns Inn. Free on-site parking is available and the A34/M4 motorway junction is a 3 minute drive away.
We are open all day every day from 12 noon, and serve food 12-3(ish) and 6-10(ish), although we always have sandwiches, sharing platter and pizzas available if you get peckish through the afternoon! So whether it's Mum's birthday, your wedding anniversary or you just fancy a couple of pints with friends, you'll be well looked after.
Each of our 11 en-suite rooms is individually designed providing the style, charm and comfort you'd expect at prices you wouldn't. Every bedroom has all the things you really need and none of the things you don't - a piping hot power shower (some with baths), professional hairdryer, sumptuous linen, flat screen TV, free WIFI and mugs of tea and coffee.
The village of East Ilsley, which can be traced back to the Domesday Book, is situated in the North Wessex Downs, in Berkshire, England in an area of outstanding natural beauty just off The Ridgeway. The village was historically noted for its great Sheep Fairs, and more recently for its horse-racing connections.

My partner and I visited this venue last Sunday and the roasts were absolutely superb, cooked to perfection. There was a great selection of Ales available that I enjoyed and my partner decided to have a “Strawberry Lemongrass” which she was delighted with. The service was exceptional, I would like to personally thank Jac for his efforts, as he truly does go above and beyond for his guests, it was a pleasure to meet him and the rest of the team. We are excited to visit again when we return in Spring.

Brilliant pit stop on our bike ride, first since regulations relaxed, Will. Have to call in again, great food, lovely staff. 12 out of 10. Update October 2023, so happy to say all is well, just as brilliant, pleased with our return visit (pit stop) getting to be a habit, Great.
Popped in for lunch whilst on a hike and although the menu looked good with gluten free options, it also looks expensive and nothing was really suitable for a light lunch. The pub looked nice with tables inside and out with a good range of beers and friendly staff. Its just off the A34 in the middle of the village with a car park so would be a good stop off on a long journey.
The crown and horns is a beautiful Pub with 11 letting rooms, it has extensive indoor and outdoor seating areas. Jane (the manager) was a fantastic host, a very pleasant lady and the coffee was exceptional..(very rich and flavoursome) My work took me to every area of this pub including the letting rooms.. they looked cosy and inviting. (Photos) Although not busy at the time I was there, it must be a popular place to eat as a lot of the tables were being reserved for evening service and the phone was going periodically to make new bookings. Well worth a visit if your on Newbury !! 😎
